They announce too soon is what they do in most cases

I really enjoyed FFXV and thought it was great.

I'm still excited for KH3 and FFVII Remake.

Tell me what I missed Supporter

    FFXV was pretty good

Not "10 year wait" good but pretty good

Either way SE made it clear that FF7 is gonna be like a multi-release endeavor so it'd make sense to delay that. The KH3 wait is the one that's head-scratching

And I'm not sure if SE is slow as hell or if they loooooove their hype and therefore announce things way too early which makes them look slow as hell, I wonder

Probably both. They take forever to develop games but they also announce big titles when they're just barely even more than a tech demo or concept art.

So they're basically the me of video games

    Hahaha

ME: "I got this cool idea for this amazing thing I'm going to do!"
ME, 5 YEARS LATER: "Oh yeah, I forgot about thing"

I mean Final Fantasy VII took three years to make originally. It's been almost 2 years since the reveal trailer and we're still three years away? Plus they already have the story, characters, areas all created. I honestly just don't understand how it's taking so long. The Crash remakes were announced last year and they're coming out this year, lol. I wonder if we're three years away from the first part or the entire game, the parts were meant to be so they could get it out quicker..

I mean, it's not a straight remake. They're making it with an entirely different combat system. They're basically developing it entirely from scratch, only keeping the storyline.

The reason I specified the breaking-into-parts aspect is that they probably have to own up to their mistake and it's probably gonna actually take longer, because they have to figure out how to make a previously-one-game plot into multiple solid ending spots and make it still work.

And let's please not compare the depth of Crash Bandicoot to the depth of Final Fantasy. (And I don't even like FF7)

This is coming from someone who has no clue about the business side of the industry, but I'm curious as to why SE spent so much time with the KH IP avoiding a console release with games that a lot of population never played. Seems like an odd use of time and resources.

It's not a straight remake but there's a ton of stuff they're keeping from the original that they don't need to spend time working on so it's weird to me to take longer than most games that really do have to start from nothing.

I think the breaking into parts thing is dumb if it's still going to take until 2020 to get a single part out, although I was never a huge fan of that idea.

Haha, I don't mean to compare them really it's just funny that the Crash remakes have been done so quickly and we've been seeing constant progress while FFVII has got like 7 screenshots and a trailer from the opening hour of the game.. There's way more to VII than even 3 Crash games but I feel like they should have a huge chunk done after two years.

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Are they not just using the combat system that was in FFXV?

Probably because they take up less time and resources than KH3 plus I think Nomura (director of the first two) spent most of that time working on Versus XIII so didn't have the time to work on KH3 fully. Idk really though.

    From what I've seen/heard, no.

I'm not a huge fan of the breaking-into-parts idea either. I'm also not a huge fan of FFVII but that's irrelevant to our discussion hahaha.

I do wonder how much has been actually done. I also wonder if they've kinda got cold feet thanks to expectations, or if it's just that they've shifted attention way too much into other areas (trying to scramble to address flaws in FFXV (which annoys me, I hate when SP games get constantly changed), promotion/publishing for NieR, the various other franchises they release games for).

What's annoyed me the most by far is the delay in KH3. It's not meant to be a graphic stunner, the gameplay should be pretty straightforward. If they're not writing a Middle-Earth-sized lore for the game I don't see why it should be taking this long

Yeah the Versus XIII team was very very similar to the KH team (Nomura, Shimomura, I can't remember many of the others) and a slight departure from the regular FF personnel with some exceptions, it could be a factor

I looove FFVII, haha. I'm super excited to play this remake which might be part of why I'm so frustrated at them taking forever.

Honestly I feel like nothing else going on at Square should really affect this remake. They should be working on it in a bubble and just doing what's best for the game.

Yeah, KH is just as weird, the first two games didn't take 7 years. Nomura is directing both of these games though and was on XV for the decade it went dark so maybe it's just him.

I just read that Uematsu isn't a part of the FFVII remake...I kinda wonder if that has to do with it. If they're either having to rewrite the entire score, or if they're having to get the score from Uematsu, or something of that sort.

I don't know, that probably isn't it, but it just feels to me like they ran into a brick wall they can't get past. With XV it was at least kinda different because XIII's expansion into 2 sequels kinda killed the Versus XIII concept and they restarted like halfway through and then the PS3's lifespan was nearly over and they started over again hahaha. This VII situation feels different.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Nomura is notorious for trying to do way too much and is usually the reason games take forever. It's basically why he was taken off the FFXV project

They already own the score, I imagine they'll just redo it like they did for the X remaster.

I think Uematsu did do the re-score for FFX though? If I remember correctly, at least for his tracks. They may be trying to "do right" by Uematsu since he technically still does some tracks on FFXIV I think but seemed quick to shut down the VII remaster.
