Being new to those types of games, I gave up on Bloodborne pretty quick. I was also told that my selection of the cane was a big reason the game was so difficult to start.

I played part of Bloodborne, I still need to go back and finish it, but I thought it's a good game, but nowhere near a top 10 ever for me.

  5. cane is the hardest to start with for sure, saw cleaver is very versatile and useable for the vast majority of the game

I have seen enough of it and played enough Souls games to be pretty sure about what it is

Think I might be ready to call Bloodborne my favourite game of all time. It may not mean as much to me as FFX or Ocarina of Time did when I was 12 but comparing it to those games today I'd pick it for sure.

Hey man mine is probably Super Mario Sunshine and some people are delusionall enough to doubt it's unquestionable greatness, so I understand ;D

I still haven't played Sunshine for more than like 20 mins, ha. I want to though.

Sunshine is the best 3D Mario game, I need to go and replay it here soon.

On top of never playing Bioshock, I've never played a Soulsborne game. Actually, I played about 5 minutes of Dark Souls via Gamefly years ago before deciding it wasn't for me. However, since then I've become a Monster Hunter addict and become a big fan of very difficult/rewarding boss fights. May need to give it another go.

Re: Mario Sunshine when I was in grad school one of the best ways to get myself to be productive was to find the YouTube video that was like 10 hours of Delfino Plaza music and just crank it out

Mario Sunshine came out just a couple of weeks shy of my 12th birthday. I remember being a little snot and my mom asking me to go to my room while she "brought in groceries", and knowing that was code for birthday presents I snooped on her. Saw Mario Sunshine, a Wavebird controller, and a couple of other things. She was mad, and returned Mario Sunshine. I got everything else but that. My ass deserved the punishment tho.

You should. Conversely, I tried one of the PSP Monster Hunters years ago and hated it, but then after loving the difficulty, patience and pattern recognition required for Souls boss fights and seeing that MH is similar in some regards, gave the series a shot this past summer with Generations and ended up loving it.

    Wavebird was the best.

Funny you say that, because Freedom Unite for PSP was my first go with MH and I HATED it. Tried 3U for 3DS, hated that too. Wound up getting 4U as a Christmas present, and it finally clicked.

I wonder what my GOAT is... maybe MGS2 or Halo 2

Few better memories than my friends and I changing the channel on some poor souls adapter during a 50 turn game of Mario Party or high-stock Smash game.

My favourite game of all time is either the original Max Payne or GTA 3. I love them both so much and over a decade later I still play them all the time.

Yeah, I think some of the improvements they've made in more recent entries (particularly 4/Gen) helped a lot with my enjoyment of the series and I'm definitely more willing to deal with the sort of grind-y/slower paced, material and crafting focused gameplay now than I was back when I tried the series out the first time. Bloodborne is definitely the MH4-type step up in gameplay for the franchise, keeping the difficulty and strategy required but making the combat faster and a bit more engaging.

GOAT for me is probably Halo 2 or Red Dead Redemption.

My GOAT is hard to pin, as I rarely replay a game. For multiplayer, definitely Halo Reach. In terms of single player experience I barely know where to start. Skyrim on 360 was probably the most engrossed I've ever been, but I barely got a few hours in on the remaster before getting bored.
