I liked watching kids play Dark Souls. Super good video.

I think as a comedy sketch it's really funny. I've personally never understood watching people online play video games seriously. that's not entertaining to me, I'd rather play the game myself. not saying it can't be entertaining for others, I've just never understood it.

The last 3 years I like reading / watching friends play video games more than I enjoy playing videogames myself

on average games don't feel as fun or worth it anymore

last ones I can think of are gta v, witcher, and souls/bb

I know the problems not with me either as I enjoy things like music and film now more than ever

I disagree, Doom, Titanfall 2, Inside, Super Hot, Firewatch; just a few games that I left with a giant smile and had a ton of fun with.

I like most things less now honestly. I guess I still like Tv/Films as much and the games I do love are still fantastic but most things don't do as much for me as they used to. Music mostly.

I love games, music and movies more than ever. I've been gradually expanding my taste in all three over the last five or so years and it's been great.

I've expanded my tastes in pretty much every form of entertainment in the past few years and have enjoyed my time with all of it. Since this is the game thread, I find that gaming in particular is in a great time - the huge rise of indie games has allowed there to be all sorts of unique and exciting experiences that weren't quite there in the same vast quantity, say, five+ years ago.

I'm aware actually but mlb going after streaming rights for vgames? That is unexpected and weird on paper for me. Cool tho

same here. I've been watching a movie I haven't seen a day for the past week, been a lot of fun. I was in such a rut of just watching the same stuff over and over. and for games I have been playing more in the past few months than I have in a couple years. really been enjoying a ton of big games, but my eyes were opened to indie games and I'm super stoked on what gaming has to offer these days. only thing I've never been able to really get into is online multiplayer, I just don't care. but couch multiplayer and single player story especially I love.

I have watched the occasional Dark Souls PVP video and competitive Pokemon battles, and I sometimes look up walkthroughs for help, but most gaming based video content is bad and/or corny as fuck in my opinion.

Honestly I could care less what reviews say at this point. I typically watch a trailer and some gameplay and if it seems cool I'll get it.

Personally I think people put too much weight into other people's opinions sometimes and go in with preconceptions that prevent enjoyment.
I'd say so, haven't been too many other than Rayman, Unravel and Re:Core.

Friendly reminder that AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) starts on SUNDAY at 11:30AM EST!! If you’re unfamiliar with AGDQ you can find out a little more about it here: Games Done Quick as well as take a look at the schedule to see if they are speedrunning any of your favorite games: Games Done Quick

It goes on for a week and is a charity based stream, with all proceeds going to either Doctors Without Borders or the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

I don't put too much weight, but this game in particular didn't receive well. I'll watch some gameplay.

I enjoy play Re:core in little spurts. It gets boring if played for too long.

has anyone watched any good video game documentaries? I watched Indie Game and Indie Game: Life After recently. I thought Indie Game was interesting. Life After was nice to see where they were at, but as a documentary I thought it felt more like special features on a dvd that someone just hit play all for.

But then I watched Video Games: The Movie and I really liked that documentary.

I've seen those three, all fantastic. Check out Free to Play, which is really good as well. I'm not sure if it's on Netflix anymore but there was a funny one about the ET game for Atari and it's about a crew that go to a landfill to try to find it.

I think Free To Play is still in my queue, and Atari Game Over might be the ET one? haven't seen it yet.

I think reviews, or review-like thoughts, make sense in certain cases even if you are experienced enough to generally know what to expect, for example for a game like ReCore that weirdly falls appart towards the end, or for games that have one crucial flaw that might be hard to see when looking at footage. In general though I think it's best you find people you trust and have overlap with. For example, if Jeff Gerstman says a game plays bad, I'll often agree (though not always). It can, at least, help me to figure out if I should wait for a sale or not. I also read the occasional review because I like the writer, regardless of what they think.

Yeah, reviews can definitely be helpful if you're paying attention to someone with similar tastes, just don't take them as gospel or view a 7 as an unplayable game.

For me I don't really follow anybody video game wise and get all my information from IGN or this thread. I'm kind of a weird gamer as it is with my tastes so I know my opinions are already shitty anyways haha

Reviews make sense when games are as expensive as they are. No one wants to spend 60 bucks on a game that turns out to be shit

Yeah it's the prices that I'm wary of. I don't regret spending on FFXV or WD2 tho. Thanks Xmas money! :D
