Anyone here play Soma or Alien:Isolation for ps4?

Felt like playing a good horror game tonight and haven't tried either of those yet. Will probably pick one up on the way home from work. Open to any other recs as well. Only horror game I've played for the new gen so far is Evil Within I think.

 

They're both great. Soma has a better story, Isolation is a lot longer. Layers of Fear and The Park are cool fun house style horror games...Kholat is pretty terrifying and hard, sort of like a scarier Firewatch. Outlast is excellent too. And Until Dawn.

 

Until Dawn scares the crap out of me and I've still never even played it

And somehow I'm still scared

Love horror games but haven't kept up much with the current gen ones. Probably gonna try isolation tonight and then isolation or until dawn.

I heard outlast was really good when it was first free on ps+ but didn't have a ps4 at the time. Maybe I'll add that to the list too. There's a sequel coming soon right?

 

At first, I thought the battle system was too oversimplified. I mean, come on, you only get to control one character? But then I started to realize how much planning goes into Paradigms and Crystariums pre-battle. I still think the easier fights are kind of boring, hitting Auto-Battle until you need to switch Paradigms for a healer, but I'm appreciating the other side of it more.

What I'm saying is, I think I might actually enjoy this 40 hours of grinding.

 

Have fun! You can't go wrong with any of those games. Yeah Outlast 2 is coming out next year. There's a demo for it on psn if you want to give it a try and see whats up. Its fairly short and there aren't really spoilers for 1 so its worth a go.

 

One of the positives about FFXIII is the flow of combat, paradigm system is fun as well.

No normal battle feels too protracted which can be the case in a lot of turn based JRPGs at times.

 

Going to trade Tomb Raider in tomorrow. Combat is awful and the lack of a cover system makes this unplayable for me.

 

Doesn't Lara automatically duck down when you go near cover?

 

Yeah it's the same thing Last of Us did. I like it a lot more than "push x for cover"

 

Definitely, it feels more natural and seamless

 

I'm really enjoying Tomb Raider, I wasn't feeling it at first but after about 40/60 mins I was well invested in it. I like that they've put a lot more tomb puzzles in it this time.

 

Next Tomb Raider game will be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

 

While Last Year looks cool, I doubt I'd play it.

Watching playthroughs would be fun though

 

XBOS with BF1 and G4 for $249 and extra controller.

Yes? Apparently one of the devs was reviewing a slideshow on a train and someone snapped a picture of the page. It included a full fledged banner for the game.

 

Well no one knows WHO it actually was, not necessarily a dev. Could have been a presentation for a proposed game, lots of options. It's truly an awful name so I'd hope they'd know better but...yeah, very possible.

I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything more concrete coming out since I haven't been looking too closely at my source sites these last few days.

 

Well it came out before U4, and at the time it was entertaining and better than the previous one. I played Rise of the Tomb Raider when it came out, and then U4 this summer. I noticed certain things that U4 actually "took/used" from Tomb Raider.

But to answer your question, U4 is better and if playing Tomb Raider after already beating U4, you'll likely remain disappointed.

 

If true, hopefully this doesn't take time away from Eidos Montreal with Deus Ex.

 

I should probably play through the Uncharted games.

 

I still haven't finished Uncharted 3. I never have the urge to go play it so I can play U4, so I guess I just don't like it that much.
