I'm still in the camp that didn't really enjoy TLOU and would rather a completely new IP

Just finished up the second run of Bioshock 1 getting all the audio logs and another 100% completion! Such a great game!

I loved my run through of Bioshock 1 and 2. Currently playing Infinite, and it's odd, but so far I'm not liking it as much as I remember. I don't like not having a map in game for sure.

New IPs can eat me. I'd love a TLOU sequel, especially with the super fucked up way the first one ended.

  5. I wonder how long IPs like the ones from Bethesda and Bioware will last. Dragon Age 7? Fallout 10? AC already has like a dozen games, right?

Not sure why, but franchises that start over/re-invent with a new story and/or gameplay each time (or throughout most of the games in the series) tend to have more longevity, now that I think about it. Mario, GTA, Zelda, AC, Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, etc. Then again, there's Pokemon (Go withstanding), Street Fighter, Megaman, etc.

Of course there will be. TLOU sold millions and millions of copies. There will be more. Just like how Sony probably won't let Uncharted lay dormant and put another dev on the franchise with a new cast of characters (what I assume will happen).

Yeah, but Sony also seems to grant lots of artistic freedom for their developers (look at how they stuck by the development of TLG, granted some opportunities for the NMS devs and let a weird game like MediaMolecules Dreams be part of their upcoming AAA club, etc). They give a lot of creative freedom and take creative risks. And if I remember correctly ND intended to make TLOU and no sequels. I mean, if nothing else notice how they let ND stop making Uncharted at what is arguably the peak of its success, and Jak and Daxter sequels pretty much ended after ND stopped working on them (just a few minor spin offs but no attempts to move forward with what ND were doing at the time), etc. Then again, GOW just keeps on going, and there was also that Uncharted Vita game I think, and supposedly it is similar to the main series and I've heard good things, so in the end not sure TBH.

Naughty Dog can take as long as they need to create something new in the TLOU. I have 100% faith in them.

I play video games fast Prestigious

They may last for a while, but having franchises go on that long can be detrimental to the company pumping them out (content wise, not sales wise).

Take Ubisoft and Nintendo for example. The former has been heavily criticized over the AC games and their quality (whether or not you think that criticism is justified is up to you). The latter has been criticized for basically surviving off of it's Mario and Zelda titles. So I guess the point is that sometimes re-inventing a series may not be best for a studio since the longer you push out games in a certain franchise, the more those games (and those games alone) become the main focus of your studio since that is what you're associated with. I think that at some point you have to just kinda kill off and end a series when it's lifespan has been reached and move on to other games.

Continuing a franchise for who knows how long can drastically reduce the number of new, creative games that you as studio create and could be seen as detrimental despite the fact that the franchise(s) being focused on is still selling.

Hopefully that made sense lol, just me kinda thinking out loud.

A good Portal movie (and more games), a good Assassin's Creed movie (franchise and more games), and a good Half Life movie (and finish the fucking story) and I would be set.

  18. What could they do with a Portal movie? Would they stay in Aperture Labs? I think I'd be more interested in seeing what it would be like to go outside of that setting with a portal gun.

I gotta say, the Assassin's Creed film is shaping up way better than I expected. The story seems true to the games, the visuals look delicious and hearing about how they got a stunt guy to perform an actual leap of faith from roughly the same heights as the characters do in the game got me pretty hyped.

Have you seen Cube? Imagine a Portal movie structured with limited storytelling like that (with just Glados' voice, an actress to play Chell, JK Simmons's voice, the portal guns, and increasingly, absurdly dangerous and creatively designed test chambers) and lots of trippy portal visuals and several action scenes, AND everything (or at least many action scenes with platforming/falling, portal shooting, etc) is shot in first person like Hardcore Henry.

  20. I can imagine that, that's the problem, it feels too much like the game itself to me. I guess the claustrophobia of being stuck inside one building the entire time is a characteristic of the games, but I feel like narratively it would be a wasted opportunity. The games had hidden clues to the backstory and what's happening outside the labs, why not actually go there?

(If it's the way you described, I'd still watch it. Because, Portal, come on.)

Also, i edited in that it could still be engaging if it was filmed like a regular movie with the camera pointed at the actors too, because I remembered it being done that way to good effect in the Portal short film. Check it if you haven't already:

It's pretty fun. So fucking hard. I don't like the way they mapped the controller though, feels convoluted to make simple choices. It's on sale (I'm assuming through the week) so I'd get it now.

Just finished Tales from the Borderlands. While the ending was perfect, has there been any news on a second season? I really want to see more of these characters.

Or Wolf Among Us for that matter?

Heard nothing, and they're both my favorites. I think they're the best out of all the TellTale games too. I'm eager to see more from them.
