I honestly do not understand people getting upset and say that the dev misled them at E3. There WILL be a single player traditional campaign, they have said so multiple times. Just NOT in Game Preview/Early Access. They didn't mislead anyone. They showed off a work-in-progress at E3....meanwhile Kojima is showing a trailer when he hasn't even selected an engine yet.

So people not interested in the survival stuff, cool. Wait for full release. This is them merely taking the procedurally generated survival aspect and putting it out there to make sure it works well and is ironed out before launch. Makes sense.

You think the "campaign" is going to be much different from what is being presented here? Remove the procedural generation and you still have a game that is weak mechanically.

Did We Happy Few do something to you personally because you sure have it out for them? Lol

Nope, just not afraid to voice my opinion on a game that I thought was promising narratively, and I don't believe in ardently defending games based on what they may or may not be in the future.

If We Happy Few looks good to you in its current state, by all means purchase the game and have a good time, however don't try to assuage criticism of the game as it is by merely stating it's in Early Access and moving on, that does nothing to address legitimate gripes with gameplay.

Has anybody here even played the game?

Yes. It's rough around the edges but I didn't expect much being that it is in the preview program.

I personally really enjoy the survival genre and am glad to see a different take on it.

I don't think playing the game is a valid point anymore given the nature of let's play culture and having hundreds of gameplay videos to watch. Why should I spend money on a game that looks like it's something I won't enjoy at all?

Do need more demos/betas etc, because there are some cases of games being much better to play than what they look like (though I don't think that's the case with We Happy Few, actual gameplay looks real rough there, usually pertains to games with a higher learning curve and grand strategy elements).

Watching and playing are two completely different things. Also, you do not need spend any money in the Preview Program. You can purchase the game if you like but there is no requirement in order to play it in it's current state.

Depends on the experience, for things that depend on fine control like shooters, gameplay is everything. Feel like everything else is pretty easy to judge based on my prior 18 years of gaming heh.

That's actually pretty cool, I hardly touch my XBONE. You do need to pay for Early Access on steam however.

Watching a game isn't like playing it. It is a valid point. It's not like listening to an album or watching a movie where that's all you can do and that's it.

Especially in games that aren't linear. Games that have choices, are open world, have side missions, large maps, etc, are different. Unless you watch someone explore everything carefully, you're not getting the full experience. And even then each person will play differently when there are choices to be made, especially in RPGs where you can choose your class, how you play, how you play out missions and respond to NPCs, etc. And that is true for a lot of series - Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, GTA, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, AC, even some Final Fantasy games.

For example, watching TheRadBrad play Quantum Break and within the first 10 minutes he completely walks by an NPC you can interact with. There is a lot to do in a game and sometimes let's plays aren't enough.

It would make more sense for shooters, card games, etc.

Let's Plays are also supplemented with review scores, and general audience reaction (though that can only be trusted so much due to how finicky the gaming community can be over the most mundane). Actually playing a game is important, yes, agreed. But if you have a bevy of other indicators that a game isn't for you, than the game likely isn't for you.

Shouldn't have to waste money on a game for your concerns to be validated.

Can't you try all early access games for like an hour on Xbox?

It depends upon the game. Certain ones are completely Free to Play while others give you a specified amount of time with the trial. I know ARK Survival for example is free and is still in the Preview Program.

Well seeing how the Xbox was already on: if you're on the fence about We Happy Few, there's a free trial.

I can't imagine ARK runs very well on xbox at all, that game chugs on my PC to an absurd degree.

Overhyped trash that only serves as a fuel to the fire that is console wars. The core game is literally the most banal shit imaginable.

(obviously procedurally generating planets is cool, but at the end of the day video games are for playing)
