If you imagine that the 3DS and Wii U had been one console, it becomes a pretty impressive library. Still dependent on first-party, but it is an impressive list. For example, you would have the two N64 Zelda remakes, the remaster of the Gamecube Zeldas, and a wholly original game. Suddenly, the wait for the new one seems less maddening. You also get Pokemon, which is something a lot of people who do not buy handheld consoles have had to miss out on.

 

Well, if this actually happens, my excitement for a movie based off The Division will have skyrocketed.

 

This is one of the few cases where I'm sure the movie will be better than the game.

 

That would definitely be a rare thing, but I'm all for it. Still hoping this Assassin's Creed movie this fall turns out alright.

We might finally get the 3D Pokemon people have always wanted. Cash in on that Go hype, haha.

 

It would be the smart move. Lure people in with free-to-play, and not just Pokemon. Mario has way more use than they are currently getting out of it.

 

I'm honestly really excited about them merging the handheld and home console market together. Especially if the power is roughly that of a Wii U. Being able to take my Zelda file with me on the go will be amazing and then being able to play Pokemon or Fire Emblem on the big screen when I'm at home... Living the dream.

 

My concern with Nintendo is that I feel that this rumored idea is going to backfire on them. It's a cool concept for sure but I don't see this doing well enough to make a dent in the market. Who know though, it's still a rumor.

 

This is sort of the chicken and the egg situation isn't it? Nintendo puts out innovative, but under-powered consoles, so Third Party devs have to put extra resources into developing games for it, while at the same time knowing the primary market for them is on the Xbox/Playstation consoles.

I think if Nintendo put out a fairly standard console they'd do well, I find the innovative stuff pretty gimmicky and it's highly off putting for me, to the point I don't want to buy Nintendo consoles despite having some great first party games.

 

What happened to the simpler, good ol' days Nintendo? Ha!

 

It really started on the Gamecube which is one of the main reasons they went for something so different on the Wii. Playstation 2 dominated third party completely because pretty much everyone had one. Even stuff like Resident Evil 4 which was a third party exclusive ended up getting ported to the PS2 because it just wasn't selling enough on there.

I think they'd do pretty much the same as they have been doing if they put out a standard console honestly. I think the NX has a chance of doing better than a normal console would honestly but it'll also probably have to be doubly successful if it's succeeding the Wii U and the 3DS.

 

Only had a chance to play Hyper Light Drifter for about an hour last night, but I'm really enjoying it. I'm dying quite a bit, but each death makes sense. You really have to make full use of the dash mechanic when playing. Can't just hack and slash. You sometimes attack, dash away, and attack again.

 

Did anyone actually play Fatal Frame Wii U? That seemed like a pretty cool use for the game pad, but I didn't play too much of it

At the CROSSFIRE Vision Summit held in Shanghai during the China Joy 2016 conference, Smilegate revealed that Remedy is responsible for developing the story mode for the upcoming CROSSFIRE 2.

Rebel Galaxy is rad as hell. Especially if you liked the ship combat in Black Flag.
