not really. Like I said they've had one failure, the Wii U which still hasn't lost them anywhere near as much as it would if they made a console to rival the PS4/Xbone. The Wii, DS, 3DS all made them a ton of money.

pretty much my thoughts. I really like my Wii U too though, I just wish it had more games but I'm hoping it's been quiet because they're working on NX stuff.

This says a lot. Nobody wants to partner with Nintendo anymore so literally their consoles consist of their own games. Why would you make a console just for your games this day in age?! It makes zero sense and narrows your audience drastically.

Because that's what they want to do.. They want to have full control over their games and the hardware they're being created on. Plus, as I said, it's not Nintendo's fault third parties don't want to work with them, it's because people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. Very few people are buying the third party games that are put on Nintendo consoles because they usually buy them on a Sony or Microsoft machine. Most third parties seem very interested in what Nintendo's doing most of the time and want to support them, it's just that the consumers usually ignore the stuff they make.

Hence, they should be a third party and stop making consoles. The success of Pokemon Go is proof of this.

I assume that's the case because all they have left for the Wii U is Zelda. I'm really interested to see what they have as a launch lineup though I'd probably buy it for eshop access alone.

Pokemon Go is hardly even a Nintendo game, they had next to no involvement in it. I also think it's a bad game so I kind of feel like that's an example of why they shouldn't, ha.

They want to do their thing yeah. But there's no way they would have wanted 3rd party support to have gone to the wayside the way it has after the N64 if they could actually have their cake and eat it too these last console generations. They're in a situation financially that doesn't allow them to compete with the rest of the industry that way, as has been pointed out by everyone in here including you.

i.e. lack of third party support is a direct consequence of less than good sales and less than well recieved hardware

plus Nintendo plans to use the mobile stuff to help get the word out there about the exclusives.

also Nintendo probably doesn't have any part in Go because that game has been so broken that Nintendo would have never allowed it.

Either way, we see how it all pans out when the console is released. One thing is for sure, Nintendo is a huge part of the gaming culture and has shaped many of the games we play on the consoles of today. I would always want to see Nintendo around in some shape or form no matter what happens going forward.

Yeah, they definitely want the third party support. I just don't think they really have that option so they have to make their consoles "the Nintendo machine" ha.

Yeah and it's prob better that way with hind sight. Until and if the day comes when they're truly in a bad place financially.

I think some vitriol comes from gamers who are brickwalled from playing zelda and mario because they don't feel like purchasing a Nintendo console is cost effective considering each successive console's library gets smaller and smaller. That fuels the "I want them to go third party" crowd's argument

Imagine how dope it would be playing that new zelda game on ps4 though. That would be dope. Game would look gorgeous.

Yeah, and I can understand that I guess. I personally wouldn't mind them going third party, ha.

Ridiculously excited to start Hyper Light Drifter tonight.

Oxenfree is so much too, so hopefully I can balance the two this week and knock playthrough one of Oxenfree done this week. I hear it's short, so first playthrough this week seems possible.

I'd be totally up for buying a Nintendo console this time round if it is as portable as they say it's going to be. I've really regretted not owning a Nintendo console for a while now as I love their exclusives. Having it portable would totally swing it for me.

I'll have to wait to see price ranges nearer the time but I'm pretty stoked on the nx. Plus I've still got my PS4 for anything not on the nx.

After sleeping on the Wii U, there's no way I'm missing the NX. If they really jam the Tegra X2 in there, this will be sick.

The handful of Wii U games that use the Gamepad do some really great things with it. It adds a whole new strategic element to Splatoon, and it would be really hard to imagine making Super Mario Maker levels without it. Why would you need a third company to do the same thing that the other two already do?

For all the money video games make, they are still not as pervasive as music and movies. That is why Nintendo is trying to do new things and capture a different market, and it worked with the DS and the Wii. The idea of being able to take the NX on the go and play it with two controllers sounds like a genius way to turn your primary hardcore audience into a walking demo disk.

I agree with the "why do what everyone else does" thread but I'm not willing to drop 3 hundy to play 2 mario games and 1 zelda game
