I know there are a ton of Final Fantasy experts in here so hopefully someone can answer my question.

I've never played a single FF game in my life but I'm in a bit of a gaming drought at the moment and wondered if it's possible to play them anywhere.

Like, where do I start? Is every game different or do they follow on? Should I forget 1-6 and go straight for 7? Do they run on modern PCs?

Totally unrelated to your question: HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU IN A GAMING DROUGHT?! Lol

Steam has most FF games and they run on modern PCs. I'd say get 3, 7, and 10 first.

Read this blogpost from the developer of Cook, Serve, Delicious, after noticing he had an ode to Ryan Davis in his game, and wondering where that came from. (RIP Ryan)

It's absolutely fascinating and a great insight into the indie dev process, and how hard it is to stand out in the market and what just a little bit of coverage can do for these sorts of titles.

Excited for CSD2, having a blast with the first one.

All from 3-10 (and 13 and its sequels) are on Steam I believe and should have no problems running on a modern PC. I think the 4-6 ports are apparently not great though, based on the mobile versions. None of them relate to each other, and everyone will have different suggestions as to which to start with - 6 is my personal favorite, 7/9/4 are close behind, 10 is more modern with voice acting and might be a decent place to start. It has its fans but I would not start with 13, otherwise you can't go wrong really.

Don't know who Ryan Davis is but after looking him up, his death is heartbreaking especially since he had just gotten married 4 days prior

a lot of people answered already but i think objectively from pretty much any standpoint, 10 is the way to go. it's a great entry point and just a great story and game in general. the HD edition should be on steam. 9 is another good one, and on steam as well with the added bonus of turning off the encounters (you'll want this for sure).

if you're invested in the series i would give 8 a spin, it's my personal favorite, and has a pretty wacky leveling system that is ridiculously easy to exploit.

A few of the guys at work bought DOTA tickets for Seattle and it blew my mind how much money they spent. Then I realized how much I have spent on hockey tickets over the years. lol

    Finished Injustice's story.

Did two rounds of Battles on medium, first with Wonder Woman and second with Killer Frost. The last two of the battles always take three or four tries. Find the controls way harder than Tekken. Definitely hurts my hands. Fun game though. Really hoping for Killer Frost in injustice 2

  16. Most of the older ones are on every platform you can think of (including mobile). In my opinion, 6, 7, and 10 are the "must plays" (and I assume @lightning13 meant 6 as well when she said 3, since 6 was released as 3 in North America. or maybe she really likes 3 idk). None of the stories are related so you can jump into any of them, but I'd recommend going 6 > 7 > 10 so you can see the progression in graphics and gameplay. Each one of those titles will give you a good look at each "era" -- from the retro 2D, to the initial 3D, and then better 3D with full voice acting.

Isn't FF3 one of the worst received of the series on the NES? Haven't played anything prior to FFX so I wouldn't know.

I'm going to a local game store today in hopes of finding my brother Megaman Legends 2 or any decent PS2 game.

I totally expect it to cost like $100 and me leave sad and empty handed.

Yeah, he is going to end up disappointed.

It sucks how expensive retro gaming is but I'm hoping at least find some gems for a reasonable price.

I got a Raspberry Pi and I'm using it for retro games. My friend and I played through Turtles in Time last night and got beat by Shredder. I'm excited about playing Earthbound and Chrono Trigger again.

The SW Battlefront DLC for Bespin is lots of fun. Looking forward to getting back into Rocket League, UC 4 MP, And finishing Syndicate.
