I'm so excited for tomorrow maybe? It's going to be a pain having to try and get to him as fast as I can though because people are insane with character selection speed.

The predicament is the location of all the various systems(I have all of the last 2 generations haha). Life Is Strange is for X1 and it's in the living room, The PS4 and 360 are in the bedroom. I think i'm gonna go with LIS but when I told the wife I'll just move the X1 to the bedroom she said No because she can't live without voice commands on the TV hahaha.

    Hello!

My fiancee just got me a PS4 for my 30th birthday. Having not had a video game system for sometime (PS2 and Xbox were my last) so far it has been a bumpy ride.

I expect I'll be peppering this thread with (what I assume will sound like rudimentary / stupid) questions.

My first question is simply this: what the hell is PlaystationPlus?

Are you familiar with Xbox Live or Xbox Live Gold? It's basically Playstation's version of that.

Essentially it's a subscription service you pay for to play games online. A perk of being a member is you get Free Games every month and get Discounts when Playstation runs sales on games.

PSN+ is a subscription necessary for playing multiplayer. You get a set amount of free games each month that range from pretty good to worthless titles.

  15. Just going to copy from Wikipedia because it'll probably be easier than me explaining:

PlayStation Plus is a paid PlayStation Network subscription service that provides users with access to premium features. These extras include early access to upcoming games, beta trials, regular store discounts, and the ability to have system software updates and game patches download automatically to the console. As part of the subscription, members are given six games every month—typically two for each platform—and 10 GB of internet storage space for up to 1,000 saved game files. In 2013, Sony announced that PlayStation 4 online multiplayer will require a subscription to PlayStation Plus. Users may choose a monthly, three-month or annual subscription.

tl;dr you need it to play most online multiplayer games, so it's worth it for that alone, but you also get two free games each month (the quality of which varies).

edit: looks like we all tried to answer at once haha

I'm only 4 chapters into Uncharted 4 and it is phenomenal.

So excited for the Witcher expansion this month!

Thanks for the responses! I don't seem to recall having to pay for playing online with my last consoles, but honestly it has been such a long time I could be mistaken. I will look into that!

My second question is this: my fiancee bought this hoping that the two of us could play games together. But a quick search indicated that most games were moving away from local split screen multiplayer. Is this the case? Are there any games you can recommend that would be fun to play co-op with her? She likes action adventure stuff like Tomb Raider I think.

Uncharted 4 is good, and then around chapter 10 or so turns into a great, great game.

yeah ps4 requires ps plus to play online now. xbox live is the same.

as for co op rayman legends is really fun. i think child of light has it too. both are platformers and are also family friendly fwiw. they should both be pretty cheap because they've been out for a few years now. action adventure games like tomb raider, assassin's creed, uncharted and similar titles don't have local co op, they are single player. but they have online multiplayer.

most titles have done away with split screen, but i think battleborn has it?

Thanks again. I will look into those.

That is a real bummer about local co-op. Maybe I can get her into FIFA or something.

Off the top of my head, all the Borderlands have local co-op split screen (I think, I've only played 1 and 2 and they definitely have it) as well as Resident Evil 5 and 6 (although most people think they're pretty terrible, I had a fun time on co-op).

The fact that latest Halo game had no local splitscreen is indicative of how far away from couch co-op gaming seems to be going, at least on the consoles.

It is. Same day as PS4.
tbh I really love the opening. It feels so real. Huge step up in the storytelling department from the first three games.

  25. I would 100% recommend the Borderlands Handsome Collection. It's Borderlands 2 + all of the DLC remastered for PS4, and has 4-player splitscreen. The Borderlands games are all amazing, and if you never had a PS3 I assume you haven't played them yet.
