Bought my first computer in ~10 years, has Windows been this awful?

Haven't had a laptop in a while and needed one as I move towards higher education. I was so excited to pick it up and take it home. Immediately upon booting up I have to sign in to my Microsoft account. Weird. And then I have to opt out of what feels like a million different data monetization schemes. Weird. And then I have to download and install updates after the long winded boot up process before I can even do anything. Weird. Bad user experience. I finally get in just to see my wallpaper being some Lenovo Red Bull ad. Awful. I go to download Chrome just to figure out that my laptop is in S mode, which I assume is a dumb way to force people to open the Microsoft store. Again, weird. No electronic device should have this much in the way of just booting up and using it.

I remember just being able to change some preliminary settings and get into Windows. Now I get data monetization shoved down my throat, Microsoft game pass ads, and a fucking ad on my stock Wallpaper. I'm sorry, but Windows feels cheap now and no longer gives off a premium vibe. What a disappointment. If anyone has any tips to make Windows 11 less intrusive please let me know lol

 

Windows has been a shit show for a while but 11 just sucks.

 

I'm falling apart and idk why. Last two days I've felt so weak and nauseous. But not always. I'll feel completely fine and then like garbage again out of nowhere. A few times in my life I've sorta randomly passed out and it's been the feeling I get right before that happens, sort of shaky and nauseous like my blood sugar is low or something but again, last two days its not continuously. Sometimes this is accompanied by me feeling uncomfortably warm. Because it's not continuous I hesitate to say I'm sick because it comes and goes. But I've thrown up 2 times today. I threw up once earlier today and felt totally fine afterwards and thought I was done with it all. But then like an hour later it hit me again. Whhhhhy

I am so mad rn. I went in for my last workers comp visit (it’s been 6 months), only to be told by the receptionist that they need a claim number and my work never filed the claim! WTF! And if they didn’t have it today they’re going to bill me for all my visits. Of course my work is closed at this hour and the lady that handles it phone went straight to voice mail. I asked why I wasn’t notified before and the receptionist said she’s just finding out and it’s in the chart notes.

 

The freeway entrance by my office that I use to get home from work is closed off because of construction and it’s completely fucked up my commute home. Instead of it just being a straight shot, my drive home is now just a complete crapshoot that varies day-by-day and all depends on which way maps tells me is the fastest.

My drive home today took over an hour and was all surface street. Sometimes I have to take a completely different route. Sometimes I have to do weird backtracking and get on a different freeway. But no matter what, it takes forever to get home. All because my freeway entrance is closed for the foreseeable future.

Sometimes I resent myself for moving to a large metro area with a complete lack of public transit

 

Our main exit by our house was closed off and on over the last 3 months and it’s annoying af. Worst of all we could get off at an earlier exit but sometimes durning the day and even at night our exit IS open. Yet there are never any sings warning of it so if it’s indeed closed and we risk passing the exit that before it we risk going to the longer way home exit after.

 

Something like this happened to me. In and off exit closures. There’s a lot of construction and even to where they added permanent barricades some lanes and if you don’t get in the right lane you have no chance of getting over for miles and can’t exit at the exit you want. Sometimes I know about road closures. A couple of weeks ago I was coming home from visiting a friend and I ended up on a different highway that I don’t take home. I’m guessing my gps routed me there and I didn’t know about it

 

A bunch of ants got to my cats rx food! I keep it in an air tight food grade cambrio container but it wasn’t large enough for the entire bag so I kept the remainder in the cabinet. I went to check to make sure the food was unharmed and there was ants in it!! That shit is $70!

 

Screwed up my shoulder blade and have a really bad spasm. The pain is unreal. Just took a pretty high dose of Prednisone - I've never taken it before and have heard mixed reviews lol hope it doesn't cause issues for me. I already have a high heart rate and am prediabetic and I guess Prednisone fucks with heart pressure and blood sugar levels

 

I am almost to the point between jobs in the terrible job market where I have burned through much of my savings, and am very close to having to withdraw money from my 401K to pay rent..

I am gonna give it another week or so, but I just figured out some of the logistics of it today. Would have to do a partial withdraw and with the rest going into a new IRA, so I can get a minimum tax bracket and early withdraw penalty. I have almost 18k in there, but will only take out less than 10k.

I will never understand how smoke detectors work in terms of why they never shut the fuck up even when the goddamn battery is removed. If it still chirps and ruins your hearing with the battery removed what the fuck does the battery do???????

Knock on wood I think I finally got them both to stop after replacing the batteries in each and putzing with it and slamming the test/reset button a bunch.

I feel like I have the worst luck with dying smoke detectors and I become Phoebe from Friends eternally.

My most insane situation was when I was house sitting at my parents and the dogs were freaking out and I ended up literally cutting the damn wires for BOTH smoke detectors in the basement and THEN finding out that it was the carbon monoxide detector that was beeping lol. Why they have both of those beep with the same annoying sound also makes no sense to me.

 

Today was the only day this week I had to work from the office, which of course was the day an expensive package was delivered, which was of course was stolen by the time I got home. And it’s not like it was outside, it was delivered inside the building in an area where you need a key to get in

I fucking hate that not everyone in my apartment building can be respectful enough to not take other people’s shit. Like what the fuck kind of neighbour are you to do that?

 

Always feel bad when I see stuff like that happening because, knock on wood, it has never happened to me. Never realized how common it was.

Work is threatening to force me to go down to part time, which means I would lose all my PTO, 401k, etc. And it is because of reasons that are not even my fault!! We are paid based on production. Every day we have a production report that shows how many hours we actually produced. I'm scheduled full time, so 40 hours a week. The problem is my production hours are basically never even close to that. But the reason is bc there is never enough work!! I cannot produce anything if there is no work available for me to produce!! So even though I am working my shift, bc I'm not producing 40 hours worth of work (literally no one is!!! because there isn't enough work to do!!!), I might be dropped to part time. I really, really don't want to lose my PTO. This is the first job in my life where I've actually gotten PTO. and when you are part time here you cannot take ANY unpaid time off. I'm trying to work out a solution with my boss but the whole thing is absolute BS. If I'm working my shift, I should not be punished. Like I'm supposed to be working rn but there is no work available. And tomorrow is a holiday so guess what, it will be slow again tomorrow!!

 

Productivity (especially in medical and therapy fields) is such bs
