Moving from September to October is definitely a weird call. Not sure what they’re looking at to think that’ll be a better release month. Especially since it’s now (maybe) the same day as Halloween Kills, (maybe) the week after Bond, and (maybe) the week before Dune. Gonna be interesting to see how the release dates for this, No Way Home (with the Marvel Studios element, plus no teasers yet), Morbius (with the probably-a-dud element), and the Spider-Verse sequel interact.
I can’t imagine really any studio is worried about where Dune is opening in terms of box office implication lol
The way story is handled in these...not a fan. But you couldn't ask for better vfx and creature designs.
If you're adamant about your movie being in a theater, release it in the summer otherwise put that shit on my television you clods
a movie with a budget of 1/2 the first venom (still a lot) became quite literally the biggest box office bomb of all time last week. it’s very bad out there. everything is gonna get pushed.
I don’t think many more films will get pushed. The studios seem to realize that they will have to release films even at a loss. Most big budget films due for this fall seem pretty confident in keeping their date. (Aside from Sony)
That’s true but was Reminiscence even going to make money without a pandemic though lol that movie looked so bad
Yeah even if it wasn't on HBO Max Reminiscence would have made $12 million instead of $2 million or whatever, original science fiction noir is dicey Whether movies should or will be pushed back are completely different
Reminiscence also had almost 0 advertising and was also available for streaming the day it was released in Theaters. Obviously the pandemic affected its performance but it certainly wasn’t the only factor
So right now October is supposed to have: The Many Saints of Newark No Time to Die Dune Jackass Forever Last Night in Soho The French Dispatch Halloween Kills The Last Duel The Addams Family 2 Lamb I can see why Sony said fuck it - Venom needs to leave this and Hotel Translyvania 4 is going to streaming. Many of these movies are going to bomb.... I think Jackass Forever and Halloween Kills will be the big hits (in terms of actually making back their budget)
I only knew about Reminiscence because there was a trailer attached to the Green Knight when I saw it
