I would imagine it's a reference to the inference and fallout from this: Britney Spears Was Never in Control
The one thing that does bother me about FOTB and now this is the way they’re re-using vocal melodies or sometimes exact lines from other albums. “I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die” on harmony hall has always bugged me, and now gen-x cops uses the exact melody of Hudson. Small complaint, but certainly doesn’t help against the “retread” allegations.
Again, you’re saying a retread of the territory explored in their second best album is a bad thing. do you guys avoid going to the same parks /cities / etc. after having a good visit the first time?
Yeah I always feel like things like that are self-referential on purpose. It adds to the “lore” of a bands story too
I love when bands use motifs and themes from previous songs. Portugal. The Man used to do similar things and I was always very into it.
The songs are sort of re-treads but idk, they feel very accomplished to me. Normally I’m really bummed (ie. The National), but I’m more curious how these two tracks fit with the record. I like both quite a bit.
Yeaaaaa I think some more attention needs to be paid on that accusation against Ezra, sounds pretty horrible. Will be refraining from giving these guys my money anytime soon.
Fuck Ezra Koenig. Used to love this band but they're dead to me. Cool how we have a thread for their new record!!
I just did a relisten to their whole discography and it’s even further below the first three than I remember. There’s great stuff in there, it starts off really strong, but it loses steam in the back half. I forgot how irritating Sunflower is lol.
I think I listened to the bootleg of the release show for FOTB more than the actual album but it's fun
Sunflower rules. I was at their taping of that song on Jimmy Kimmel so I saw them run through it a few times and I’ll always have good memories of that
