Can't stop playing this one through. I Think Ur a Contra has been the undisputed champ for album closers for me. Can't believe 5 records deep they put up a contender in Hope. 8 minutes and whenever it ends I want it to be longer. @Serenity Now Agreed on the Piano being the MVP of this one. FOTB gave the guitar its moment and this one is all about piano parts.
This didn’t grab me on first listen unfortunately. I hear what they’re doing and while it’s intellectually interesting, the songs just aren’t doing it for me.
The record I’ve thought the most about while listening to this (especially Connect) is The Strokes Comedown Machine. Especially “One Way Trigger”, I think that song has proven to be so ahead of its time.
I dont think I can confidently say Hope is my favorite VW album ender yet, but Ice Cream Piano and Hope are my favorite book ends on a record they've done. It was striking the first time I hit play and Ezra has done a bunch of press talking about how strongly he felt about them as first and last.
God this rules.i can't wait to see them live. I'm also heavily considering a trip to Red Rocks to see them this July.
show absolutely solidifying my FOTB is goated opinions. i always found the 'it's VW's jam era!!' take annoyingly inaccurate about anything other than set length, but damn these songs translate live soooo well
