MSG was very impressive. Played for almost 3 hours, the light up wristbands (gave me Phish “Soul Planet” flashbacks), the extended jams (NEW DORP was amazing and Dead-y as fuck), and Run in the encore was a true bonus. I turned to my brother and dropped a hot take that, maybe in 8-10 years, this will be the kind of band that people actively travel to see once they increase the size of their catalog and jamming chops. Their potential ceiling is as high as any band actively playing.
they have to lean into it though. you don't get there by accident. most bands just don't want to spend all their time playing improv games and stuff lol. i wouldn't even be disappointed if they stayed where they're at in terms of jam-ness, it already rules
Yeah I actually think it's a perfect amount of jamming without becoming overkill. I love that they basically play over half of their catalogue at shows lol and I don't want that to stop
I love going back to an album from like my teens and realizing I still remember a decent amount of the lyrics/progressions and it just hitting me like oh yeah I spun the shit out of this one back in the day this album still fucks like crazy
I urge everyone to give a second try to Greta's second band, Gold Motel, if you never gave them a fair shake. Just really, really great summer music right there
Look, I don't think Twiddle is anything special within the context of the jam world. The vocals are eh, the jamming style is derivative. That being said, the vitriol has always confused me a bit. I bet if you took a random jam fan and put a blindfold on them and dropped them in the middle of a set during LOCKN', Peach, or whatever, they'd have a good time.
Pretty sure I saw their singer at Scamp, it was pretty cool but I doubt it was anything like the full band setup. Bummed they’re not playing any of the shows close to me though, my friends a big fan and it would’ve been cool to go with him. He’s gotten a kick out of the VW jam transformation
I get it, wasn't trying to contribute to that. They'd hate Aqueous or whatever tier 2-3 band they could've brought just as much. I think its kind of a strange choice that risks alienating audiences but its not really that high stakes, its just an opener. It's mostly funny. Starting to think this is probably not Matthew Kelly's Kingfish despite Steven Hyden saying so, it is probably this guy https://www.christonekingfishingram.com
