well, Madvillainy and Double Nickels On the Dime do exist (not exactly the sams but you guys get my point)
yea longer albums recently have been getting a bad name in regards to various hip hop projects (not all of them but still) but I still believe a longer album can be done well. 18 songs is fine if they truly feel that they need those 18 songs. Also holy shit it's been 6 years???? For some reason I could have sworn MVOTC was 2015.....crazy.
Numbers of tracks really don't phase me, it's really just comes down to total length. Like, Tierra Whack is 15 tracks but only 15 minutes. Frances The Mute is only 5 songs, but 75 minutes. I could go on, it's all over the board. This album isn't even an hour, I am not worried about it being too long at all.
I'm the opposite, I love long albums and long songs, but 18 tracks worries me. Hard to feel like there isn't filler in that bunch. 18 songs in under in an hour likely means songs that are only like two minutes long, which to me (just me, not saying this is the case) feels like "this was a cool song idea that we couldn't fully flesh out but we wanted to use it anyway". I'd take an album of 5 songs that's an hour long any day, but I listen to a lot of stoner/prog rock shit
Not worried at all. They have been working 6 years on this thing- im sure itll be high quality, guys.
gulp (frog on the branches) ((also shoutout vampire weekend for having their full discography listed as 'Essential Albums' on apple music))
