my work here is done also it's a good thing just generally 'summer' is Vampy Weeks season because I will just NOT have time to listen to this lmao, have you seen how ridiculous May's slate is????
I’m on a long drive and just want this to show up on Apple Music already. Couldn’t get it onto my phone earlier. Looks like they finally filled in the track listing.
Hadn't realized this leaked Thursday morning. Oh well, loving it so far. The song instruments keep changing.
I'm still super hyped to listen, the Stereogum review was brilliant and the pre-release tracks were some of my favourite Vampire Weekend songs. Harmony Hall was a mission statement, 2021 has been stuck in my head on and off for weeks, and This Life is brilliant. I've held off listening but will do so asap.
8.0 is obviously a v good score. Surprised no BNM. Reminder P4K gave Reflektor a 9.2 BNM, smh. Expect Big Thief to get some BNM love tomorrow or most likely Monday. Edit: that P4K review is probably my least favorite write up on the record so far. My opinion is more in line with DeVilles Stereogum piece.
Full credits for the album have some surprising contributions from Hans Zimmer, iLoveMakkonnen, Chromeo, Bloodpop, Ludwig Goransson and more I probably missed Here Are Vampire Weekend’s New Album Father of the Bride Full Credits | Pitchfork
Cool interview with Danielle Haim about the album Danielle Haim on Collaborating on Vampire Weekend’s Father of the Bride | Pitchfork
jeez really seems like they give everything a 7-8 these days. boring the review also seems to be saying that because it’s not as dour as MV that it’s somehow not as “smart” or whatever and that gets a side-eye from me. i also think Stereogum’s writeup did a better job
score and BNM aside, because that stuff ultimately means fuck all, they deserve a much better write up than what they got. six years between albums for one of the biggest bands to come from the p4k scene in the website's history, and the review reads very....bleh. like wtf kind of writing is this for a website supposedly as "prestigious" (lmao) as pitchfork? i rarely think using first person in legitimate music criticism is necessary, and when it is used its usually used poorly. like it is here. that kind of stuff makes reviewers come off as amateur, which is fine, unless you're writing about a massive band in one of the biggest online music publications today. nevermind the point being made, which is also a terrible point.
