Really? Huhhh, idk man, I don't see how that's really "aesthetic" haha it felt more like product placement to me. But I don't have any idea, so who knows.
My favorite album is Contra for sure. Love the first album though. Okay c'mon, at least give me your top 3 songs, or songs you liked a lot. I'm trying to get a feel for what style you liked. Cause my favorite song of theirs is Diplomat's Son, and that's because I like the electronic side of them.
A Punk, Diane Young, Cousins.... off the top of my head with no thinking, so I guess the upbeat stuff more than not?
Ahhhh okay yeah, we like different vibes, but I like the upbeat stuff too. Btw, I'm new here, how does one acquire points? I want to be able to make a post sometime. This forum is awesome though, I'm a huge music nerd so this is perfect.
This album is going to rule and I’m still really looking forward to it. For what it’s worth, Contra is easily my least favorite album of theirs. Top 3 songs are Hannah Hunt, Step and Walcott.
I think that this album will be perfect for you then haha unfortunately I'm more into the electronic/indie mix that Rostam brought to their music. Step is one of my favorites too though, especially because it mentions my school (Berkeley hehe). I don't have a Communist Reader though.
For sure, I guess I'll find out! Btw I saw that you're from Southern California, I'm from San Diego lol
Oh fasho, you're like 20 mins away. I'm always going out there for Tacos El Gordo, best tacos of my life.
Vampire Weekend are not my favorite band or anything, but I consider myself a pretty big fan and think all three of their albums are great. So far the only song I'm impressed with is "Harmony Hall". The others almost strike me as interludes. I have a feeling they will work much better in the context of the album though, and I'm sure there are a lot of other great songs on there too. For my own personal tastes I think the album art is AWFUL, but I will say it strikes me as pretty on-brand for them and it kinda makes me laugh a little looking at it. It's just that their other three were such great covers - all around just cool looking and very aesthetically pleasing. * Edited to add that I totally agree that the very obvious placement of the SONY MUSIC branding on everything is completely their decision. I'm sure Sony is more than thrilled with it but it definitely feels like them to me.
Adding "Sony Music" to the cover just seems like a throwback to older album covers. The whole thing seems to hark back to the style of the early to mid-90's which lines up with what trendy kids are dressing like these days. Totally up this band's alley to be aware of all of that.
This is tracking as either my favorite or 2nd favorite of their records. Massive VW fan too. I think their debut is their weakest and they’ve only gotten better from record to record. But a lot of music left to be heard, I adore the new sound though.
Also from SD. I work downtown and live in Hillcrest, a block away from Balboa Park. This is where I met my fiancee! Well, Tinder is where I met my fiancee, but Tacos el Gordo was our mutually agreed upon meeting place. Oh, and Rostam is still working closely with Ezra, right? Pretty sure I read he was heavily involved with this album. Whatever direction they are going with the music and the aesthetics I'm sure is 100% calculated...a product of changing personalities; not a product of the band lineup changing.
yeah! i guess this is where i reveal how much i hate pointless upside down seasick camera movements and jonah hill
