I thought this was pretty decent! Very pretty and fun to watch, and never once thought about the length. The little side missions were really fun and I loved all of the character and costume designs. Dehaan's voice sounded completely normal to me -- he always sounds like that.

My main complaint is the story itself was just kinda weak. Mul and it's inhabitants being destroyed is really sad, but the whole "we must right our wrongs" objective came a little too late for me to really care that much about a planet that seemingly has no significance to the remainder of the universe. I feel like the truth about Mul being revealed to the protagonists earlier on in the storyline would have at least created a better sense of urgency, because they otherwise seemed to just be meandering from one cool looking scene to the next for a couple of hours before they served any real purpose.

Also, maybe I missed it... but did they say how Liho knew to not only pick Valerian, but pick him in that specific time, to carry her spirit?

Idk I guess TLDR is that I think that this is a good movie that could've been great if more attention had been focused on creating the conflict.

This is a blast. My favorite character and world design since John Carter. Doesn't live up to my wild expectations following Lucy, but it's a ton of fun. Didn't really care for the dynamic between DeHaan and Delevigne, but there's wasn't much else I didn't like. Besson has such a good grasp on pacing.

Such an awful time for this to come out too, that certainly doesn't help.

$17 million is pretty devastating. France is set to lose a lot of money on this one.

Had a lot of fun with this but i do think Dehan was miscast. I just cant buy him as some seasoned, womanizing, badass government agent. He doesn't have that kind of charm.

I liked the film. It's certainly flawed, but I find it interesting that Rogue One was critically praised when it suffers from almost all the same flaws without the upsides of Valerian.

There is a lot to like, but I think that this could have done better as a series. It's too much for one film.

I agree. It's such an odd role for him. I don't think Cara was as miscast, but definitely with Dehan.

I had such a great time with this. I get what people are saying with Dehaan, but I actually found his take refreshing, saving us from another character in the like of the Han Solo rip-offs we're inundated with.

Between this and A Cure for Wellness, Dehaan has given two strong performances in large budget, ostensibly commercial films.

I had forgotten Rihanna was in this but holy shit her entrance was so well done and probably the strongest scene in the film for me.

    Is that a spoiler? haha

He wasn't the right guy for the role, but like you said it was refreshing in a way. I think Cara's character needed to have more charisma. It was a case of two lead roles having the same issues.

I really wish they would explore this becoming a series. There is a lot of potential there.

Too high a budget for tv, too big of a bomb for another film.

I would definitely give it another shot with a different lead/better writing. The whole love plot was such a huge detractor from the plot. It felt like the writer had never been in a relationship before. Lol

I still think it could work. There are some high budget shows out there these days.

The love plot was awful and totally unnecessary. Maybe it came across better in the source material, but it should have been changed for the film. It seemed forced from scene one.

I really liked this, yes it has its flaws but I was so enthralled by the universe upon which it is set and the utter uniqueness of it that I just didn't care. Such a shame to see that it isn't doing well at the box office, just means that big budget independent films like this are less likely to happen in the future.

It wasn’t nearly as bad as the reviews indicated. It’s a shame that it won’t be expanded upon.

This was a gorgeously fun mess of a movie. Writing was lame and Dehaan was ridiculously miscast (though Cara was surprisingly pretty good, actually). The final act really lost me and I did not find the twist engaging at all. But those visuals!!

The company behind this is reporting an $83 million loss.

Didn’t Besson claim the film already made its budget back somehow before premiering

Sucks that this didn't make enough money but I'm glad they took such a big risk because I enjoyed it.
