Oh I just deleted people because I asked myself why are they on my friend list and if I didn’t have any good reasons they weren’t anymore lol

I also want to say that like I even understand people wanting their Facebook or whatever to be a circle of people they trust to agree with them and be on the same page moral-wise etc. I don’t blame them for that. But what follows is well if everyone is on the same page then what’s the purpose of pretending like you’re participating in digital activism by sharing political posts, does that make sense? If everyone already agrees then what’s the purpose? To me, it seems like a performative move but I could just be overly judge mental lol

 

I think being on the same page and agreeing 100% are two vastly different things, I mean I've grown and learned and am still growing and learning but if someone is a racist or homophobic or a TERF or whatever they don't deserve me

I was saying if you don’t want opposing views on your friends list that’s understandable but then what’s the point of sharing activist type posts I guess
Like for example if you only have people on your friends list who support and agree with black lives matter then why would you need to post black lives matter stuff? To me that seems like it would be for warm fuzzies and not because it’s actually doing any activism. Does that make sense?
As I already said I could be judging harshly lol

 

Also so many people saying we must riot and destroy because that’s the only thing that fixes things and then the other side saying omg don’t get violent that delegitimizes the movement and like ??? Which is correct???

Even if your friends list is mostly agreeable, it could prompt someone to do something I guess. Not every single person is going to be 100% agreeable I figure. Some may need swaying or be inspired by something someone posts in relation to it. They just might not have felt the need to take action yet?

Yeah. I mean I get it but at the same time I’m very glad people are choosing to post about it because the more people it reaches the better. Even if the person is doing it for face value, it doesn’t hurt anybody to raise awareness and despite cringing at posts by people I know don’t give a shit or are going about it wrong, I’m just happy they’re speaking about it at all. Seems like a waste of time to start judging people’s individual posts when as a whole it’s helpful.

Because everything is incredibly stressful right now and no one is thinking at their best because so much brainpower is elsewhere.

Time to unfollow the politics thread for a while. It’s usually a helpful place for info but sometimes I forget that it’s still just a place for random people to post on the internet and I don’t need to give it a ton more weight than I would any other platform for comments. Have to keep myself from taking a complete nosedive tonight.
