how do I balance my mental health getting absolutely destroyed by the internet but I still need to be informed

I’ve basically lived my whole life in Clovis and I’m really ashamed it only took me until a few years ago to realize the difference in races there

Oh I just used that as a general bottom of the barrel statement, could be replaced with like “nazis are terrible” OR even those like “MAPs don’t exist they are pedophiles!” It’s like ....why on earth do you have nazis (Or nazi apologists) or pedophile-apologists on your friends list tho lol

frankly even still I don’t understand it in places like Facebook. Twitter maybe, where you can’t control who sees and replies to you (when public) so there can be a huge blowback ofc but like. On fb you have control of your friend list.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. It’s why I almost always prefer unfollowing people to unfriending or blocking them. That way it spares some of my mental health by not constantly seeing their terrible opinions, but I can still interact on other posts and they would be able to see what I’m saying as well. Right after the election I think I did post one of those “unfriend me now” things in anger because it was such a bad day, but that’s about it.
Luckily no one has seemed particularly awful on my personal news feed this week and I haven’t gotten comments from awful family members or something when I’ve posted, but on general posts in my friend circle things have been worse.

 

Yeah definitely. It’s like a hard balance to strike
I did go through and delete half my friend list recently which did greatly reduce the negative shit I saw but I didn’t do it for that reason lol like that wasn’t the goal.

 

Oh yeah that’s obviously not talking about situations where you don’t feel comfortable or safe having someone on your friends list or able to communicate with you at all, those still need to be gotten rid of.


ALSO BIG NEWS of the day, the termite treatment is done and I didn’t freak out and now I’m having Chinese food for the first time in months and couldn’t be happier.
