Brooklyn 99 was supposed to be next on my list but I don’t really want to watch “good cops” rn lol

 

kind of why i haven't gotten back around to it despite loving the show

Yeah that show is kind of conflicting lol, though many scenes do depict police scenes, it's just more of the backdrop behind the jokes/story

I choose to believe Brooklyn Nine Nine takes place in a fantasy land where a police department can be pure and have multiple LGBTQ and POC members with a black gay chief

 

Yeah. I understand the hesitation and I had it too but I’m glad I watched it, bc it’s so good/funny

there are definitely some scenes that made me roll my eyes/grit my teeth but idk I guess I’m able to separate it bc like max said it’s just the back drop, you know they aren’t real cops or real scenarios, it’s a comedy
Also like they are detectives which is the least kind of ACAB if you ask me (in the sense that even if we abolish the system I still think detectives would be good to have). Idk I just feel like that’s infinitely better to depict than, say, beat cops

which reminds me why SVU is okay because in that universe detectives believe victims of sexual assault and bring them justice

there’s still a lot to be said about what these shows do to our cultures understanding of police

but it feels like the kind of thing you can’t win.
