Also my friends joked about my English teacher grooming me for years and my mum spoke to me about it the other day and honestly I think she might’ve been? She regularly took me to pub meals after school and drove me home??? She always told me she offered it everybody else but I was the only one who took her up on it, and I always needed a ride home. Loved the attention and special treatment, plus she was stunning so at the time I was like heart eyes but yeah maybe that was a moronic situation. She’d call me any time I was late and it was always super odd to me that she had my number somehow

 

This is all very intense, especially the cigarette principal.

The stuff I experienced at this school was in the late 90s, but I left after first grade so I have no idea how things changed or not. And I can’t imagine how much worse it was in the decades before.

 

My friend was just posting tonight about the high school we both went to
Except I graduated in 2009 and she graduated in 2017 so like 2 seconds ago lol
(I met her when she was 16 in early college at my community college and we’ve been friends ever since)

anyway it was all about how racist our school is and how even the teachers spread the supposed history that the trees on campus used to be used for lynching and the white house across the street was for kkk meetings. I did know that my town had the southeast headquarters for the kkk at some point but I foolishly didn’t realize it overlapped with the school property.

it’s so weird to really unpack that about a town you love. I know it sounds crazy to say but considering the dark history (she posted proof that the members were in the thousands at one point) It’s crazy to really realize how many must still be descendants here.
And it’s weird bc while yeah there’s deff underlying racism it’s not like in your face aggressive racism like in some places in the south so I guess that’s another reason it’s hard to reconcile the history with it.

 

I dread to think. Yikes. It’s kind of scary to think back about things that seemed normal at the time?

 

Oh I left out the main purpose of why she even brought all that history up.

Idk if any of you are familiar with the IB program but it basically is for super smart kids who are taking courses that are super accelerated, so when they graduate they actually have their AA and are going straight to bachelors (often at ivy leagues, prestigious schools etc)

well one of the traditions associated with IB is on the last day of school is like ~IB breakout~ where they all wear prison costumes and even “participate in prison activities such as riots or breaking out into dance mobs” like all co-signed by the school.

and my friend was just posting how insanely tone deaf it is for a predominately rich white school to make light of such a thing when they are so privileged

and it’s crazy how much I never thought about that kind of stuff back then.

also I should have said this at one point but my friend that I’m talking about is Black lol and like I said it’s a 90+% white school

 

Also she posted pictures from Instagram that are public and location tagged at the school of people on that day having the n word written on them for fake tattooes and doing the bloods symbol and stuff

she said she and another black student brought the pics to admin who said bc no one saw it in person they couldn’t do anything about it. Bc of course.

 

Yeah, a lot of what’s happening at this school is because it was specifically started for segregation and white flight, but they still refuse to own up to that history to this day. My parents didn’t find out about that until I had stopped going, but I think my brother still went at the time. It would have absolutely affected their decision to send me there if they had known, but of course the fact that they didn’t have to do in depth research about where I went to kindergarten shows just how privileged we were. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when I found out the details, but it was a long enough time later that it didn’t surprise me and made a ton about the place make sense in hindsight.
