There's an episode of the Netflix docuseries Rotten about it. Commercial beekeeping and honey cultivation kills a ton of bees and is the reason bees are dying off

It's been a while since I watched it and I'm by no means an expert lol. One thing I remember is that the bees get trucked across the country a couple times a year to pollinate fruit trees and a lot of them are killed in that process? Also the honey they make is for their sustenance so if we're taking it that doesn't fare well for them

I already knew there was no ethical consumption under capitalism but I’m beginning to think there’s just no ethical consumption period

 

Yeah I think that was part of it -- not enough wild bees to pollinate the trees and the money from the farmers a big source of income for beekeepers in the off-season

I feel like that makes it even more sticky! Bc it’s like what would happen if they didn’t bring them there to pollinate? A shortage of produce like they are always threatening is imminent after the loss of bees?

not saying that makes it okay or means we should support the industry, just saying that it seems super complex
