me personally the biggest scumbags ive ever known didnt self reflect at all so had no self-awareness of how they affect other ppl. and then theres a bunch of genuinely good ppl that are just too hard on themselves.

basically rh best thing to do imo is always be willing to learn but not place impossible standards on urself. im also immediatley suspicious of ppl that act like theyve never done or said something not pc cuz pretty much everyone says/does bad shit when theyre a teen or w/e. like i casually used the f word sometimes when i was a kid just cuz thats how the other kids talked. well i turned out gay and from all the interneting ive done it turns out A LOT of other gay ppl were like that too lol. as long u learned and didnt do something REALLY bad u shouldnt sweat it too much imo, ur still doing better than most ha.

I’ve said things on this very website that I regret big time, and that’s just talking about one specific place that I’ve participated in as an adult. One of my biggest struggles and failings in life has always been defensiveness, whether it’s in a situation of actual problematic behavior or just generally having very little confidence and assuming I’m a burden to everyone so I react super strongly to overcompensate when I mess up. I know I’ve caused harm to people over the years by arguing or trying to make myself sound better instead of just saying, “You’re right, that was wrong of me. Thanks for letting me know.”

I appreciate that generally everyone here has allowed me to grow without holding grudges or bringing up past views that I was wrong about. I do beat myself up about mistakes a lot too and I’m working hard now to find the balance of self-reflection without obsessing over negatives.
