    Where do I start... haha

I think there are quite a few connections I am not making that possibly would happen with multiple viewings.

The film was great as far as performances/sound/visuals go, but I think the overall narrative could have been better.

the big issue for me is the fact that they are all clones. There are so many questions as to how and why. Imagine if they were just random people or even some sort of mutation. It still could have worked and it would have been a hell of a lot easier to believe. If it’s all just symbolism then I guess you just have to access it. But there is literally no possible way it makes sense.
A few of the scenes toward the end had a very silent hill 2 (the game) vibe which I loved.

Overall it was more of a Twilight Zone feel then a “horror” movie feel.

Still so much to process. My wife did not like it hahaha

In the theater now, it’s starting in 5 minutes. I’ve got my 11 year old daughter with me, it’s just the two of us (she really wanted to see it surprisingly enough, even though she doesn’t like horror). It’s her first r-rated theatrical experience, wish me luck haha

After seeing it as second time, I think it still works as a masterful work of combining horror with comedy and an ensemble cast that’s firing on all cylinders (kudos to Elisabeth Moss for making the most out of a small role).

On that second viewing, I think it kind of suffers from Shyamalan syndrome, where it has to cover up the twist so much that it hurts the narrative. Like, Red should be seething with rage when she reunites with Adelaide. Instead, her exposition is purposefully vague, even at the very end. So viewing it from Adelaide’s perspective, as a woman who escaped living underground and is trying to keep her past life in the dark, it’s not quite as compelling as it should be.

What it does do is make you root for Red more. Like, I loved the climax of her toying with Adelaide. You really get the sense that they’re equals. But it’s also kind of disappointing that it ends with Red trying to jump out of the darkness and ends up getting impaled. Like, she was winning the fight. She could have easily done it without that cheap move.

That said, I’d really like to know what Red was whispering to Adelaide when they’re facing off in the classroom and Adelaide lost her fire poker. It’s not audible, but it looks like she’s saying a lot.

As far getting into the weeds about how the world works, I don’t really care and I’m glad the story didn’t try and dive into that. There are some parts of that lore that are clunky and don’t make sense, but you either accept it or you don’t.

I feel like so many people are gonna dress as the Tethered for Halloween this year. Would be a pretty quick look to put together.

So i just saw this. I absolutely adore the way this was filmed, the score, the cast, the action, the horror, and the comedy.

I really, really, really enjoy the horror/comedy mix. He does it at a masterful level.

Now the narrative of this: still unsure how I feel. I have to read into it and figure out what the hell I just watched. I understand parts of it ... and some left me confused.

The whole 80’s beginning was so good, and it set up such a creepy atmosphere. Also the propeller kill was great.

I read a few articles about it now and the idea that stuck the most with me: The "twist" ending hurt the narrative of the film. Red's plan is not coherent and her motivations are confusing because her identity is purposefully obscured. Her expository speeches could have a huge emotional impact but they just kind of don't make sense and fall flat. There feels like a lot going on under the surface that goes unexplored because they save the end reveal for the very end. I touched on this above, but if that reveal came with like thirty minutes left this could have gone to so many more interesting areas and explored the world and relationships between the tethered in a much fuller way.

I still have big complaints about the scissors and jumpsuits and the scale of cloning? But clones have identical children with clone counterparts? Ugh it doesn't make sense, I have a lot of issues with that but those are really nitpicks, the emotional stuff being a huge missed opportunity because they waited too long on the twist is what really makes me feel disappointed in this.

I know expecting this to be as innovative as Get Out would be unrealistic, that was a once in a lifetime kinda movie
the Alexa and boat jokes were great, I could also see Jordan being like nah when he heard about Hands Across America as a kid
Winston Duke is so physically imposing he was a great choice and Lupita was great
I definitely could have used more character development, was Gabe a dumbass or a dork or an asshole or some combination, but I guess the idea is it could be any family
where the tethered came from exactly and why could have used some explanation, and was it the whole world or just Santa Cruz, and what is happening with them
also not sure about the ending

The fact that the ending is almost identical to an old Are You Afraid of the Dark episode should definitely be a meme.

Gabe was goofy but he wasn't stupid or a bad dude, he was a contrast to Adelaide. He was privileged and lived a life completely ignorant of the kind of brutality that those below him experienced. It's why his only real issue prior to the attack was Tim Heidecker making him self-conscious about how his boat isn't nice enough. And also why the the blatantly ominous first appearance of the Tethered didn't phase him at all and he thought he could just approach them

halfway through the film we heard a guy shouting and it seemed like he was either escorted out or he walked out. no idea what happened there but he was talking about how the film is bs and some racial slurs.

besides that, the film was really, really good. i was pretty satisfied with what was shown, and what was left out there. can’t get over how good this is.

I really like how there was no question mark at the end on whether she was the tethered one or not. I feel like if that was left hanging, then people would have an out. this way knowing it was really the tethered that survived, we are forced to to think about her actions and the consequences of that.

I also I don’t mind that they didn’t explain how the tethered ones got out, or how they survived. I feel like that’s something I would prefer hearing in a commentary.

I guess being "tethered" means your gametes combine 100% identically somehow upon procreation. Either that or they're manually sampling DNA from the womb somehow and cloning every single new baby, even after the "project" is abandoned. Preposterous, but so were elements of Get Out. There's a lot that could be explained that consciously wasn't. Great execution around a silly idea. Enjoyable film, all in all.
