At the moment I'm mainly just stuck on.. why does the real one have trouble speaking when she sounded perfectly fine when she was a little girl?
Yeah, that is what was confusing to me too. Like, she was explaining to her how it was before she “went up” to the real world, but she’s wasn’t even there then. When I asked for people to give me more, it’s not because I agree or disagree. There was very little to agree or disagree with because people just made vague statements about the ending but not any actual reason lol
Didn’t the fake one hit her or touch her throat when they come face to face in the fun house? Thought that whatever she did probably altered her voice box.
Instant reactions: I love Jordan and I’m so happy we have him as a filmmaker but I think he lost the reigns just a little on this. I think it was very well acted, beautifully shot, and the music (both score and soundtrack) were fantastic. He just needed to reel it in a bit story wise. I appreciate the swing though and can’t wait to see what he does next for sure.
Absolutely loved this. I think the twist *mostly* works, the classroom speech being the exception, but I need to see it again and pick up all the little details to be sure. But yeah, just incredible acting and directing. And the SCORE, good God, amazing.
Honestly wish this could have been a half hour longer. Felt like there was way more thematically that Peele could have dove into. With Get Out where there was immediately so much to unpack in my head, but with this one it feels like I’m overthinking it because I’m not completely satisfied with what we were given
There weren’t really any jump scares that got me but god I felt completely unsettled the entire time and still feel a bit shaken up. The shot where the twin’s double walks out and stabs her fucked me up - like it wasn’t quick enough to be a jump scare and there wasn’t really build up, and the end result was that it felt much more real
Really liked this. Only things keeping me from loving it are confusing plot elements (I really want to see the above question answered) and the fact that I have no idea what the movie is trying to tell me. Everything else was superb. Jordan Peele is unreal with set pieces and casting. Lupita deserves an Oscar. Rest of the cast was great too, especially the daughter.
Whole movie was tense, but that shot is the only one that really sticks with me as legitimately unnerving.
This. Reminded me so much of the Annihilation scene, right down to how both bring in the main theme music.
Holy shit, this was so great. Peele is one of the best filmmakers of our time. I wish they would have left a certain aspect of the story a bit more open, but regardless, I loved this.
Just thinking what makes the ending so haunting is we’re looking for a protagonist to root for, but neither Adelaide or Red are justified in their actions. Adelaide stole Red’s privileged life and ultimately kills her to keep it, and Red ultimately kills a LOT of people to get her privileged life back. It’s really pretty tragic.
