There's a lot I love about 30 Rock but there was also a lot that just didn't work for me. Still need to finish both that and Parks though. I've been on season 5 of both for years..
Scrubs Arrested Development Curb Your Enthusiasm It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Extras My fav comedies probs. I don't think any of those are unpopular though, they shouldn't be.
what I saw of Parks, which isn't a whole lot, I kinda hated. I'll try it again at some point bc most people go on and on about it.
Yeah, it has a pretty weak first season but it's pretty small. Definitely get into season 2 before giving up on it.
The Office is my favorite comedy, bar none. Parks and Rec is up there as well. I also kind of love How I Met Your Mother, if only because it strangely resonates on an emotional level for me that a lot of other shows can't. They are very good at tapping into my sentimental sensibilities. Another problematic show, however, to say the least.
love 30 rock so much. i rewatch the series like at least twice a year, same with veep i love some seasons of parks and rec but have never been able to finish it because i eventually start to hate the series. i think its toward the end of the 4th season or something like that.
I liked the first four or five seasons of how I met your mother. It's extremely bad after that and gets so fucking horrible during the last few seasons, and even the first few seasons aren't all that good, and it's really disturbing how Barney being a sexual predator is a punchline
Its not the lack of calling out that bothers me, generally. Tons of characters are terrible. I feel like it's more glaring and distracting when it sometimes calls them out and sometimes doesn't. Cause then I'm like oh they usually do a good job with this but they're not right now so am I meant to be sympathetic or is this a weird sexist symptom of the time or is he meant to be a jerk in this moment? And then I overthink it for 1000 years. I feel like when a show tries to be self aware and then sometimes drops the ball it's more noticeable to me. Not that shows shouldn't try to be aware of character flaws cause I think they should, but it makes the inconsistencies more noticeable to me.
I just find it odd to have that gripe with scrubs but praise friends when every single character in friends is terrible in one way or another, often without consequence or reflection
I have criticisms of both shows with regards to characters and criticize the characters constantly in Friends. The men in it are like legit sexual predators. I love Scrubs too. It's just not in my top 5 shows. Not solely for the JD thing. It's just a thing I noticed while watching the show that I commented about. I have tons of stuff to comment on about Friends too, which I do often in the Friends thread. Shrug.
