I wasn't trying to say that The Leftovers was better than these, The Wire, Deadwood, etc. I do think the second season of Leftovers stands up there with those shows though
Hmm.. which five would those be? I'm only on the third season of GoT and started it very recently but I absolutely think it's in line as one of the best shows on HBO. Unless it takes a major nosedive which I just can't see happening in the slightest.
Off the top of my head: The Wire The Sopranos Oz Mr. Show The Larry Sanders Show Deadwood Plus a good portion of their America Undercover films that rarely get a lot of attention.
I need to finish The Wire. I was so into it and then got super busy at the start of season 4 and haven't gone back to it.
I bought the first season on DVD and I think I finished it but I never got around to buying the next one I know, I could download or stream it but I don't have a computer and even if I did I would need to hook it up to my tv or something because I don't like being huddled over a computer screen
What are your thoughts on GoT? The Wire and The Sopranos are two of my favorite shows of all time and it's surprising to me that you think none of the shows currently airing are as good as the ones you listed.
I've tried multiple times to get into it. Literally every one of my friends is on board and generally obsessed with it. I don't think it's for me, I'm not really attracted to any aspect of the story.
Ah that's understandable. Kinda thought the same thing about myself for a long time without actually giving it a chance. Once I did finally watch it though I was hooked within the first twenty minutes.
I've watched the majority of the first season, specifically the first 3-4 episodes, multiple times. I've given it a shot, I'm just generally uninterested
Yeah I get that, as soon as I posted that I started thinking about whether you have a gaming console to use HBO NOW on. I hate streaming on my computer as well.
I also have no desire to watch Game Of Thrones, honestly there's so much great TV now that I don't have much room for anything else, especially if I need to play catch-up
I use my PS3 to stream and I can't binge, I watch everything pretty slowly so no way I could finish a series during a month trial
was just talking about how its about time for me to rewatch the wire. might do the sopranos first though, since ive only seen it through once
Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind is just fluff. There's no substance and some of the writing is downright cringy at times. I finished about half of it before giving up because I was bored out of my mind. My wife is now listening to the audio book (which is what I did as well) and she's farther than I ever was, but the writing/story is no better than where I quit. It doesn't help that the narrator is utterly boring and terrible at accents. It's being made into a movie/TV show/videogame so maybe those will be entertaining but given my feelings about the text, I don't see why they would be any better.
I've seen some of game of thrones and didn't like it. Or deadwood. I am usually fine with violence but some things are violent in a way that makes me too uncomfortable to watch. the wire took me a while to get into at first but it became a fave! def
iunno how unpopular it is but modern horror is terrible to me. im not into the gore for no reason/shock/torture type stuff. my favorite stuff is stuff like The Shining, the classic Halloween series, and ooold shit like the 20-50s monster movies haha
