Tonight is the first time I will be going out for a meal at a restaurant as a vegetarian, after going meat-free 6 months ago (my social life sucks lol). It's a staff christmas meal but we are going to a Tapas place lol - it's a set menu though and the vegetarian options aren't as plentiful as they are on the regular menu, but on the plus side I will be trying Churros for the first time! Gonna state a potentially unpopular opinion here and say Spanish food is the best food in the world. Back when I ate meat Paella was my fav dish!
It's definitely up there. You're probably right. The best restaurant in the world was in Spain for most of the 2000s. I'm dying to go to Spain.
I don't get paying more than 20 dollars for a t-shirt - especially like that Supreme/Bape/etc thing. The most egregious shit are the ones that just print a logo on fucking Gildan shirts and sell them at an even more insane markup. Antisocial Social Club and Kanye West are the ones that come to mind - both should know better
I'll just buy things I like and not buy things I don't If I liked one of the Kanye shirts printed on Gildan I probably would've ended up buying one, I just happened to not like them My taste in clothes is also hardly ever what I wear though considering my money goes to other things instead
I'm so confused cause I clicked the unpopular opinions thread but keep scrolling up to make sure it's not the food one lol. no hate tho love food and I wish I had some currently!
Not following rules has become so common in punk, that I actually make a point to follow all rules and rebel via a strict, regimented and orderly lifestyle. Me too. Torn between wanting to go to Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia (just to get some of those sweet, sweet Valencia oranges from the source)
Getting back to that TV/Movie conversation, I think that overall people have much lower standards for the media they consume than they should. Being critical and questioning plot points and motives, IMO, enhances the viewing experience. Allowing things to wash over you and going "good enough" is lame.
As a counterpoint (or maybe just going further with it?), I think it's important to not let something done wrong overshadow things done right and it's definitely okay to consume media knowing the flaws it contains if you can get something out of its strengths. I agree that it's good to be critical and question decisions made in its creation, and also think that it shouldn't necessarily ruin the experience if there's still something to gain.
With that said, I get what you're saying and think that's really the root of Garrett's concern whenever the book topic was being discussed: When people watch TV/movies or play games, they don't examine the plot in the same way they would in a book because it's being force fed quite a bit more, and doing so would absolutely change the experience for the better.
That's probably a good idea overall I personally don't trust aliexpress at all after seeing some of their jerseys but I know it's pretty much a coin toss on quality so it can be good
Yeah that's kind've what I mean. Dig in more. Too much of film/TV criticism is focused on plot points and twists, at least recently. Examining the work as a text that can be critiqued and dissected is much more interesting to me than figuring out mysteries
When it's my absolute favorite show/movie etc. I am far more likely to adopt a "good enough" attitude towards it because I get so much enjoyment out of it despite the flaws that may appear. It entirely depends on the text when it comes to judging whether or not that particular attitude is stupid or not though. E.G. I don't think I questioned Mad Men once - an unquestionable 10/10 show - but on the flip side I don't question The Walking Dead enough - a garbage show in many, many aspects. Specifically with books, I didn't question literally anything in Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings because I was enjoying reading it so much I was just 100% absorbed - the story took hold of me so much that I just accepted that the plot was what the plot was etc.
If you're not questioning something because you're so wrapped up in it and enjoying it, that's when it can be most rewarding to take a step back and question why you're so wrapped up and why you're enjoying it so much. There are reasons it's connecting so well.
It's like an unconscious flow though I think, especially the first time I am reading/watching - I'd would have to go back & re-watch to dive in at a deeper level, as it were. I can't concentrate for shit listening to music/writing/doing work etc. but with TV shows in particular I am just switched off and zoned out. It's kinda weird.
I think even if you're watching something as escapism or " to turn your brain off" you can still watch it critically
Definitely don't trust aliexpress. Got some light up shoes for a concert and they broke 20 minutes into my set
