Charter schools in general are problematic in terms of the destruction of the public school system and the fact that they're mostly taking advantage of predominately lower class, urban environments who don't have funding for public schools.
Yup - I love the intetnet and I wouldn't be the same person without it. Completely fucked over my attention span tho
I know fitness dudes that tell me i should drink so much water that the only pee that should have color all day is my first. The rest should he clear! Dafuq!?
Many of my friends who don't read literature are very well-read in non-fiction and online reading, so even though I wish I had more friends to discuss literature with, just about everyone I interact with is highly literate. I'm not sure people recognize or respect how much reading is involved with a lot of online activity when discussing millennials and reading. I've always read a lot of literature, but I think a huge reason why I kept up with it was a couple amazing teachers I had in high school who engaged with English and AP Lit/Lang classes beyond being prepped for tests. That means a lot and the atmosphere of talking about what a work means in literature was so enriching and positive that when I went to film school, and it completely lacked any of that, the learning and investment in what we were studying really suffered for me and most of my classmates. So @OhTheWater you do good work and I appreciate it and I wish that attitude was more prevalent in non-English classes. Though to be fair I had amazing history teachers in high school who approached learning similarly, but even in other arts-focused classes, again especially film school, it was so focused on technical aspects of the art, there was very little discussion and interpretation of the works we studied on a meaningful level. So unless students had an innate understanding of storytelling and communicating thematics and character, when it was time to make our own student films, almost all of them were extremely boring and devoid of substance. I guess most of them looked good though.
have you ever been exposed to Metal Gear Solid 2? I will never miss an opportunity to plug that game and Shadow of the Collosus and Silent Hill 2 ps2 was stacked with narrative driven games written by brilliant people
MGS2 captivated me more than any book by far as a kid. What a story and the devices they use to tell the story are phenomonal.
Yeah I had it but was too young to fully grasp it. If I'm being honest, most of the video games that I play I play for mindless enjoyment. COD, 2K etc. while I listen to music or podcasts. I enjoy some narrative driven games occasionally but overall if I'm going to strap in for a 2-3 hour block of time in front of the TV, I have like 30 Criterion Blu Rays to work through first.
i mean, i don't set a quota for myself. i drink from the bottle when i'm thirsty and thats how much i end up drinking. i feel like i started doing that i have been more thirsty or at least more aware of thirst
Cant watch this cause i'm at work but is the idea that there are just shitty people in every generation?
yeah its that every generation says the same things about the next generation being lazy, narcissistic, etc.
