It’s not terrible. It’s also not god-tier. It was, however, a great bonding experience for me and my family and a cultural phenomenon that I haven’t really felt since. It was the first show we all watched together week to week and I am very nostalgic for it. I think it’s a little much to call it “terrible” tbh. Are there bad things about it? Yes, absolutely. But to me the most important thing about that show is the characters and the emotion behind them, and I think it does that well.
And the episode about Paolo and Nikki or whatever her name is is absolute trash but when you’re dealing with a network tv series that requires like 23+ episodes a season, you’re gonna get some stinkers. I mean, the original Twin Peaks run, one of my all time favorite shows, has a serious dip in quality in the middle of season 2 when Lynch left, but I’d be crazy to call it a bad show overall because of that. “Terrible” is just very hyperbolic.
That's exactly why LOST should be given kudos. Because of those episodes, not knowing how many season they were going to have and how quickly they could progress the story because the greedy fucks at ABC would still have the show on to this day, the creators decided to plan ahead and stop after season 6 and map out what was going to happen. That decision really has reinvented and helped television series (Breaking Bad followed this from the start, I think Mad Men started this planning well in advance as well). Unlike say, fucking Supernatural that has been on the air for 15 seasons and will air for another 75 for no goddamn reason at all than "because". Also - great show.
Also also: No idea wtf the boomerang thing is about and no idea wtf the "Stan" thing is. Though that was a typo at first.
Yeah I enjoyed Lost when it was on and it was fun to be a part of that cultural moment but I’ve never wanted to revisit it since it ended
I think Lost was truly great at setting up a compelling mystery. It was the answering of that mystery they missed the landing on.
ive never seen lost but on 6/6/06 i heard my dad watching the first episode from another room and it has a lot of screaming and crying and loud noises and i thought for a second that the world was really ending and that he was watching footage of it from around the world as it happened.
Lol I don't expect ppl to know the definition of every slang term but when there are multiple people explaining it very clearly it just seems like random extra effort to be like what does this meeeeean. Yoooouths!!!
assuming we mean Eminem's stan, it was a pretty insane feat of songwriting, albeit one that shows its age now as rap has continued to grow
I mean, to be fair, you explained why it's your personal preferred slang term... not where it actually came from, which is what the follow up questions seemed to be geared towards (at least mine was)
I figured people were asking what it meant. Me explaining why I preferred the term also spoke about the definition. Tbh I don't rly care that much about ppls knowledge of internet/pop culture slang it was just discussed enough I felt it was p clear.
Yeah it was pretty much the most frustrating show I've ever seen. Back before binge watching and you had to wait a week for the next ep I used to lose my mind. Every week there was some fucking cliffhanger that kept you coming back but was never resolved.
My friend is watching it for the first time and I finally got a text from him that just said, “we have to go back!!” and I was like yessssssss. It’s one of my favorite finales ever.
