The worst is when stans use all these things unironically for their faves lukewarm achievements. Like Yas queen first blonde female artist born in the second week of March to have a top 100 hit in the year of the dog yaaas slaaay #iconic
I don’t like this word Edit: lmao fuck just realized Stan is dog with a blogs name. But I don’t like that usage
It seems so insincere, how can I know you're truly impressed if every time they sneeze you say " queen of sneezing I wish I was that tissue"
I like that it is more gender neutral than fangirl and more concise than super fan or really big delusional annoying fan. Other than that I have no feelings about the word!
Yeah I don't get "stan" either, I've never seen it used outside of this site though and even then just mainly in the Taylor thread Who even is Stan and who is he such a big fan of that caused this edit: realizing now that it likely comes from that Eminem song
I'm surprised how many people are unfamiliar with stan, I don't feel like it's obscure slang I've heard it for years, that also may be from ONTD
I don't listen to eminem so I guess I wouldn't know I don't like eminem I don't like rap or hip hop at all tbh
It always amuses me that “Stan” became an earnest, unironic label super fans apply to themselves when the original Eminem song is about the dark side of being a super fan. Stan killed his wife.
Yeah when Stan first started being used in the early 2000s after the song it was an insult for hip hop fans who were obsessed with one artist. In the past few years it's kind of been adapted by people in a sense of being a serious fan of anything
