The Office was a good workplace satire, which is what it was mostly trying to be for the first two seasons, and a mostly bad character based sitcom, which is what it was trying to be the rest of the time. This is also why the British one is so much better.
Yeah that’s an insane opinion lol. Seasons 6 and 7 are incredible and the first few are the weakest. The more they leaned into the absurd, the better the show got
30 Rock is a show, moreso than The Office, where I loved everything to do with certain characters and disliked a lot of the rest. I still need to finish the last couple of seasons.
When Jack learn that his latest casual relationship, pizza chain heiress Pizzarina Sbarro, is using Ryan Lochte as her sex idiot? There’s so much going on there and that’s just a single scene
Man, hard to believe there used to be a single night each week where Community led into Parks & Rec led into the Office led into 30 Rock. What an embarrassment of riches.
That's almost cheating though because they had barely any emotional stakes at all. Until the last few seasons, character development was a secondary concern. And even then, sometimes they'd "gotcha" with it. Taking the characters seriously is much harder to do.
I hate to admit it, but I've actually seen them live before. Went to see Sevendust open, but wound up staying for half of Creed's set.
I saw Scott Stapp do a solo set once, when he was on a big “found god” kick. I will always remember him “channeling god” in his stage banter saying things like “Portland... this is your savior speaking” and introducing a new song as “this next one is the truest song I’ve ever written. It’s called Jesus is MY Rockstar”
