when I worked at a movie theater one of my coworkers would listen to this song on his own time and sit still
Conan O'Brien is great but I was specifically referring to the comedy-news genre, not late night in general. John Oliver has some great subjects but his actual comedy is bad.
Every Oliver joke is either a lame Family Guy-style reference or using an Internet joke that is a few weeks old.
From what I recall (haven’t watched anything of either in a very long time), the perspectives of Oliver and his team were better, but Stewart was a more natural comedic host.
They are both typical liberals, which means they are better than the ghouls but at the end of the day they are dangerous enablers.
last thing I will say about it, is that John Oliver's show is absolutely relevant in 2025 but it's also not at all like late night shows, so it's not really in that bucket. His weekly deep dives into topics is fantastic, and I think super important
I would never watch Oliver for the jokes but the half hour pieces on a single topic are usually pretty good.
Some of his pieces are actually great. Well researched, thoughtful, and anticipates the counter-arguments. The humor really got exposed during COVID when there was no audience to laugh. The jokes just hit with a thud.
Yeah which is a shame because Segura can actually be pretty funny. Especially on his podcast with his wife. Can't stand Bert, though.
He feels like such a relic of 2000's comedy like Maddox or Tucker Max. His whole bit is that he is an alcoholic.
