To be clear, many teachers deserve the bad rep regarding how much they complain about their jobs. Get out of the profession if you don't like it. But the vacation time/days off argument is overblown. All my friends with regular jobs talk about is how much free time they have during the day to fart around.
Most jobs aren’t interesting. I can’t talk about accounting or being a controller to my wife for five mins let alone a class of disinterested kids.
Guidance counselors take over my class sometimes for presentations and I am always amused by how little presence they have. They get eaten alive.
We had a person come in for our film class from the local film society. Super knowledgable, informative, prepared, interesting (to me, an adult with an interest in movies). The kids fuckin hated her she was like a cardboard cut out.
Generally speaking, at least at the K-12 level, actually knowing your subject is less important than how you manage the room.
I "like" my job in that it is better than when I worked at Burger King or Office Depot but sleeping in is better.
Well sure, although when I take a lot of time off, I kind of miss having something fulfilling to do. I took a week off not long ago and my boss needed me to do something at one point and I was not at all bothered by it.
not necessary, because the shower. also obviously not as good as a shower. still thanks for looking out.
My comic shop job sucks in a lot of ways, including pay. My after school program job is pretty rad, even on a day like today when the attendance is higher & we’re in a temporary smaller space & the kids are full of energy, lol. Chaotic, felt overstimulated, but it’s a great team that supports each other and adapts well.
