I was anxious and didn’t know what to do, injuries like that haven’t really happened in my life and I was in a position where I COULD NOT miss work. That wasn’t me being weird or egotistical about it and troll posting that was me in a situation I didn’t know how to handle, coming to my friends for comfort and advice… so it does kinda hurt my feelings that’s a “make fun of Randall” moment. If they thought it was enough of an emergency to send me home anyway they would’ve but it was wrapped up really well to avoid infection and the bleeding was totally stopped. It wasn’t as big a deal as the thread made it out to be when they were grossed out by my picture. Went to a 24 hour urgent care, they cleaned and stitched it, gave me a Tetanus shot, i was fine
I just find it too hard to start talking to people about that stuff and it tends to alienate people. When I post my top ten on social media once a year people are surprised I like movies at all.
Randall I am glad it worked out fine but respectfully we were all trying to give you advice on how to handle it and you were like nahhhhh I have to go to work. I get you needed the money and couldn’t miss the shift but you were actively not taking the advice lol. Come on man.
I was weighing all the advice I was getting and I made a decision after we were able to wrap up the wound. If the wrap didn’t look clean / if the hand kept bleeding I would’ve 100% left work. I had looked it up online and the online advice was to get it stitched within 24 hours, so I felt like within 8 hours was okay I think it’s important to consider the mindset of a broke working class person wanting to tough out an injury if possible - a lot of us take risks like this. It’s not only to make the money that day, but also to continue the image of being an extremely reliable employee for job stability and possible promotions in a field where I am extremely expendable. Even if they would’ve understood emotionally that I needed the day off and had empathy… “Randall’s missing a shift that he was the only server scheduled and it’s busy for a weekday, fucking over the restaurant, because he locked his keys and phone in a building doing something before work and tried to climb a barbed wire fence to get them back” is still not a good look at all professionally. I had to save face on that.
I also definitely sprained one of the ligaments in my knee in that incident and I did not miss a day of work I put on a brace and grimaced through it. Did I want to do what’s best for my body and rest/heal YES but that is not a luxury I have given myself with my life choices
