If it's in someone's home, I call it a bathroom. Otherwise, it's a washroom. Restroom sounds silly to me, toilet is fine One time in my early 20s I worked in a coffee shop and some dude walked in and asked, "Where are the latrines?" None of us employees were familiar with the term so when we asked what he meant he just got mad and repeated, "The latrines!" We were still confused so he sighed and left. Dunno why he was committed to using that term
I've never thought about this before, but I guess if it's in a home I'll say bathroom and if I'm out and about I'll say restroom, but I've never chosen the words consciously. Just seemed like the appropriate words to use.
I always did an Irish goodbye in college and my roommate would get pissed. He’d call me asking where I was and I’d be eating hot dogs in my bed.
I was at a store with my mom the other day and she asked an employee where the bathroom was and he looked at her confused and said "oh you mean the restroom?"
95% of my Irish goodbyes where when we were leaving a loud ass bar and I was drunk and over it. Plus the hot dog man was right by our house.
Tim Robinson was doing what? My family does the opposite of an Irish goodbye where it takes longer to leave than it does to go home
An Irish goodbye is mandatory when I'm at a large family gathering of the French Canadian half of my family. Picture 20+ people with ADHD just talking *at* each other but not actually listening lol Anyways, yeah, I always say bathroom.
I’ve only heard the term latrine used when camping. Someone using this at some random coffee shop is hilarious.
I'm from New England and have never heard someone call it a porta John haha but I guess every state is different
I guess the only ones I’ve heard have been New Englanders. Maybe it’s just more of an east coast thing.
I say Port-A-John, but then again I picked that up from my dad who probably thinks using the word ‘potty’ is for women and children
