The biggest turnaround in my life was that Pokémon was exclusively for nerds in 5th grade but then over the summer it took over and it was the only thing that mattered in 6th grade.
The Pokémon tv show premiered when I was 8 and immediately felt like the biggest thing in school. Almost every kid I knew collected the cards too even though I don't think any of us knew how to play. By the time middle school rolled around the craze was kinda over and people became more concerned with who had a crush on who
All my friends who didn’t know how to play would just give me their energy and common cards to use for building decks. It was awesome. I wish I hadn’t sold all my cards now (except my holo Charizard I pulled from a pack) because I’ve been wanting to get into a TCG again.
I don't know about "becoming cool" (because who cares, right?) but New Balance makes shoes I can actually wear while walking for long periods of time without feeling like I want to break off my ankles.
America has always been weird about shorts. Shorts here have always been above the knee and only went south for a brief period when limpbizkit toured but afterwards we reverted straight back. I blame the Sports, basketball shorts are too long and when invented their own football they made them wear pants.
Repost from my dabble day in the NFL thread and a new story after. When I was in school my Grandmas friend found a complete stack of the orignal Pokemon cards on the ground outside the post office. He gave them to me and my brother to share. There was one of each card and it caused a lot of fights. My Dad took them away because of the fights and we cried. My biggest turnaround in primary school was because of my pet frogs. I had like 30 frogs because I loved them and for some reason the cool kid down the street thought that was cool and inducted me into to the top tier social circle. We are talking parties with the hot girls and hanging out at the skate park. later in high school I left the group because they started smoking and bulling other kids and I didnt want to be a part of that and had asthma.
Pretty hypocritical coming from someone keeping a diary in the Unpopular Entertainment Opinions thread.
Being fuckin forcefed content about this Ethan Klein dude on Twitter. Who is he? What is this content cop nonsense that wont leave my feed? The streamer era is the very clear divide for when I became out of touch, but I am willing to bet that none of my students know who this dude is either. When did he become famous? Who is his content for? Every video I see is him just reading Hasan’s tweets or watching his show?
what Platform are you on? I just googled him because I didn't recognise the name, he (used to be?) known as H3, did like youtube skits 7(?) years ago then moved over to youtube drama
from what I can gather he's famous because Trisha Paytas married his brother and then they both were like this guy is awful , now who is Trisha Paytas that's the magic question but seriously every day I have to learn about a new podcaster or YouTuber against my will
I’d be surprised if your students haven’t at least heard of him. He and his wife (who is Israeli and served in the IDF) got super big and famous on YouTube, most younger people I know were into him growing up or hated him growing up. I first heard of him in 2017 or so when a younger coworker was listening to him and his wife and I found them pretty boring and dumb. But they have like a whole network or something, he did shows with Trisha Paytas (not sure if you’d know who that is) and Hasan and a bunch of other people but post 10/7 he and his wife have been crashing out and insulting/harassing creators for not defending Zionism or for being pro-Palestine or for being cool with people who are pro-Palestine, like the content cop guy. The content cop guy is another YouTuber who recently made a video about how cruel Ethan and his wife are being. That’s about the extent of my knowledge. I don’t keep up much with YouTube and streamers but since 10/7 he’s been pretty obsessive about Hasan and Palestine and I see people on Twitter dunking on him all the time now too.
