More people should make snide and/or sarcastic comments in movie theaters at the end of a bad trailer or a scene in the movie.
When Bane breaks Batman's back during The Dark Knight Rises someone yelled "that's gotta hurt!" and it was the best part of the movie.
I am not that quick witted. Once in a while I might say something like "who watches this?" but nothing as funny as some other people.
Nobody cares if you talk during trailers. Id be ok with the snide remarks after bad scenes but only if theaters implement a banishment button on the arm rests so the rest audience can vote to eject the commenter, if their joke was bad the usher will come in and escort them from the premise. If their comment was good you can approve and the usher will deliver a refill of popcorn.
I also like when I hear someone, usually one half of an older couple, asking a plot question from about an hour before that without knowing it means you can't understand anything going on.
Obviously you don't want to hear people talking about their job or a recipe they saw online, but one of the fun parts of theaters is hearing those reactions. What people laugh at, what causes walkouts, what builds the most tension in the air. Sometimes if I am alone and I see other people are alone I wish there was an exit poll when you leave that would ask you about the film.
When we saw I Am Legend back in the day me and my friends kept groaning at this dude commenting everything. He was trying to joke too after everything. Though towards the end of the movie we were hating on him so bad but he made a super loud comment about one of the infected looking like his dad. It was one of those things you’re trying so hard not to laugh at jokes made by someone you don’t like but it backfired and we started giggling. We had to give it to him.
I went alone to watch Mulholland Drive at the arthouse in town recently. Its a little theatre attached to a cocktail bar, I arrived 30mins early and ordered a cocktail and sat at the bar. Everyone their was chatting about the movie so I joined in and afterwards we continued chatting as we walked back to the train. It was a great time and that session ended pretty late on a week night so im hoping if I go to a friday/saturday session you can hang out after at the bar and do the same.
Depending on the movie and the nature of the reactions, sometimes reacting to a movie in the theater is Good, Actually. Read the room, etc., but sometimes a comment from someone can hit just right. But, I already argued a version of this not that long ago here, lol. Some people pretend that all movies are meant to be watched in the theater in stoic silence, and those people are dorks.
The MD chat moved to The Subtance at one point, the older chat couple had seen it and werent about it. When I asked them why they watched it they looked at me like I was stupid for asking.
oh wait I misread the post, I thought it was only at the end of the movie and not during. anyone talking during a movie needs to be put down behind the theater dumpsters
Look, I don’t support the idea of turning a public theatrical showing into a RiffTrax episode that you’re the star of, lol. And, I’m not personally that much of a verbal processor. But, every time I see hyperbolic anti-talking takes, I become more pro-talking, out of spite.
