For me, it comes down to both intent and my expectation of the audience. People with Git R' Done stickers or testicles hanging from their truck probably get a big kick out of network comedies like Two and a Half Men, and everyone working on the show knows they are making empty garbage for people they look down on. Modern Family is directly targeted at urban liberals who think they are smarter than everyone else and part of watching that show is doing your performative task of looking like you are enlightened because it has LGBT people and people of color, even if their character attributes seem to be just acknowledging that fact. Are you going to be more mad at a bad meal from McDonald's or a bad meal from the trendy new restaurant everyone says is great?
This unfortunately isn't the most important thing in the world to me where I want to waste my time hunting down clips to win a battle on the internet.
I would rather fire off a one minute reply to you arguing about the worth of arguing than try to pick apart (gestures wildly at Pitchforkian nonsense).
The point of the thread is to entice people to reveal their weird takes so the rest of the forum can then converge on them, Statler-and-Waldorf-like. It is a sting operation.
Modern Family was fucking hilarious Mainly because of Phil and Cameron imo but the whole cast is great ...except Joe.
I think I don't care, and I don't mean that in a nasty, dismissive way. I mean that in a literal "this is not important to me" way.
My Modern Family story is this. When it came out, my sister started watching it and recommended it to me because she thought I would enjoy it too, and I did. And this past year she watched it with her husband and two girls as a family, and I think that's nice. Not everything has to be boiled down to a psy-op.
Tetras argument was that basically modern family does rainbow capitalism And your response was yeah but I like watching it with my sister so he should be quiet and not bother bringing it up. You don't have to engage critically with a show but why are you shutting down criticism of people who want to? If you don't care don't engage or if you do care argue against their point.
I'm not doing any of the things you're suggesting and considering 90% of my dialogue has just been toward you, I don't see how you've arrived at this conclusion.
Buuuut, if I have to provide a tie-in between my anecdote and Morrissey's criticism, it's honestly a little irritating to read someone break a show's audience to what are honestly in my opinion unpleasant stereotypes.
This is how I read the chain of conversation to reach my conclusion Tetras argument Souls dismissal My attack on souls dismissal Your attack on my attack My response
Modern Family is just a better written and acted show than the others he mentioned. It also wasn't created by Chuck Lorre who is awful. That's all. There doesn't need to be anything more to it than that.
I dont watch any of these shows, I find the criticism and analysis of them interesting and like conversations about criticism.
