My favorite kind of on-stage comedy is that one guy who desperately tries to get a thread to move on from a topic to no avail. Pretty hilarious. I'm fairly omnivorous and it fucking sucks because I'll never have enough time in my life to do everything I want.
Never got into standup or improv. Kind of like dance, I can appreciate that it takes a huge amount of skill to be great at it, but it's almost never what I want to spend my time watching.
I have really soured on stand-up over the years. It seems like it has one of the worst ratios of good to bad. It is so much lazy observational surface level stuff.
I try to keep up with standup but its really hit or miss these days. The market is insanely oversaturated so makes it hard to find new and exciting ones to watch. A lot of times I find that I actually prefer people on their pods over their actual standup material. Also gotta be selective with that cuz Im not gonna listen to like 50 different comedy pods.
Yeah I still fw stand up but not as much as I used to. I’ll get around to watching a special if it’s someone I already like or if I’ve seen hype about it. Haven’t bought a ticket to a stand up show since well before covid
There’s a comedy club here that puts on free stand up shows at a big park near me every Friday during the summers. That’s fun to go to because you can make it your own thing - blankets, snacks, drinks, whatever. There are a few sets but they’re all pretty short. It’s a nice excuse to get outside with friends
There was a DIY venue my bands used to play at that did stand up sets before the bands played, and 99% of them were excruciating.
I think the proliferation of so many comedians pivoting to the right-wing grift has definitely turned me off of the medium
Gone to a few free local stand up shows around the city and they’ve been pretty funny honestly. One guy kept calling me punk rock Tom Brady until he killed the joke.
I think that’s actually one of the things I hate most about stand-up. I want nothing to do with crowd interaction, do not involve me whatsoever
Definitely don’t listen to as many comedy podcasts as I used to. Really fell off of stuff like High & Mighty, CBB, and Doughboys ages ago. I do still throw on the occasional All Fantasy Everything though if I’m working a house project. Always kinda hated whatever I’ve heard of Cumtown - in fact speaking of stand up, I couldn’t finish that recent Stavros one
I’m too big of a music guy to listen to podcasts. If I have time to listen to something I’m putting on music 100% of the time
