Asking for a bite of someone’s plate of food is rude. Asking for a bite of someone’s slice of pizza is nuts
Not always, if you're in a restaurant and someone bought a personal pizza, that's not a scenario where there's other slices to go around. All food is shareable. It takes no effort to cut off a small piece of anything. Pretending otherwise is what's nuts
So if a family member says, hey, I've never had that kind of pizza you have there, can I try a small bite, that's crazy? How big of a bite do you think I mean, for one, and also, what the fuck?
No one is saying you shouldnt share. But the person with the food should be the one to broach the subject of sharing. Asking if someone wants some (even a pizza, sure cut off a piece or let them have a bite) is perfectly fine. Asking for a bite is crazy
The problem is that these people are habitual offenders. Every time you eat with them, they are going to ask for it. You have to stop them before they get too confident.
I didn't make up the scenario, I'm going off of the scenario this thread is presenting. Also, you seem to be admitting the scenario I'm presenting is logical.
Penlab if you want to keep asking people for their food go ahead. We really don’t need to go through all this again.
When you ask for something, you are putting someone in an awkward position. If they don't want to, they either have to lie and do it anyway or tell you no and make it awkward. It is the same if you ask for a bite of their food or a ride to the airport or to borrow money. In contrast, if I offer you something and you politely decline no one is injured.
No, it isn't. Getting offended is crazy. Actually, it wasn't. The original post stipulated a serious relationship, which doesn't imply family to me. I even mentioned family in my posts and this is the first time anyone has allowed that exception.
Usually when my family and I are looking at a menu with pizza we’ll get one to split if we’re all interested in trying it. A personal pizza is for when someone wanted that pizza but no one else did or something, so yes, I think it’s wild to ask someone for a bite of their personal pizza.
Is family not serious to you? Id also agree depending on who the person is it is still annoying to do. When I ask my wife for a bite (or vice versa), it is almost implied that we are being rude. It’s like a joke. It also means that the other person didn’t offer up their food to try, which we pretty much do any time we go out to eat.
I actually don't generally ask, but members of my family do. I'm not debating the point for my sake. It shouldn't be awkward to say no if you're not a dick about it and the other person is a reasonably functioning human being. So basically, I'm suggesting the problem is not the act itself, but our own responses to the situation.
