I thought Into Darkness was fine when I saw it, but I’ve never been that into Star Trek so most of the redone Kahn stuff just kind of went over my head (expect for the “KAAAAAHHHHHNNNNN!” Meme).
Have no strong connection to Star Trek outside of the recent trilogy (although I never actually watched Beyond) but AMC put the 2009 one back in theaters a few months back and I was the only person in the theater on a Saturday afternoon
Don’t know how effective it is to quote random posts on the first page of long-running threads. This post is like eight years old, lol.
I don't ever think I have ever actually truly enjoyed a 007 movie. Skyfall was ok but i can't tell you anything that happened in it. They're not bad, but just kind of those movies you forget about the day after watching. Like the Fast & Furious of their time.
Speaking of Fast & Furious, I cannot imagine a less interesting premise than 'family and fast cars go zoom'. Maybe for 1 film but TEN????
Most of the Fast movies are bad, but for a while it was fun to watch the tone and style modulate and change until they got it exactly right (Fast Five) then go wildly off course again.
see, I like watching the modern Bond movies, but there is absolutely a ceiling on how good I would say they are. they're kinda like chicken tenders or something like that - enjoyable-ish if you're in the mood but they're only going to be so good
The Fast and the Furious is much better than James Bond. For starters, it isn't based on a racist fantasy about postwar Britain.
I've seen every Bond movie (except the '67 Casino Royale which doesn't count) and the majority of them are good. And even the bad ones (Die Another Day, The Living Daylights, Diamonds Are Forever) have their strong points.
I vaguely remember one when I was in middle school with Pierce Brosnan where there was a cool snowmobile chase in Iceland I think.
Die Another Day had a really bad make out scene with Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry and I haven’t seen another Bond movie since
I made a piss poor attempt to watch them all over the course of last year since I’d only ever seen 2006’s Casino Royale. I got through all of the Connery ones and was feeling pretty burnt out since the only one it felt like I really actually enjoyed up until that point was Goldfinger. So I took a “break”, and now it’s been about 13 months lol
I’ve seen them all countless times. Grew up watching them with my dad. Love em all even the bad ones.
Bond are top dad movies, Very excited when I heard how displeased mum was that we were going to watch octopussy next.
I like that bond lets the guns and cars be a part of the chauvinistic power fantasy. Fast and furious feels so jarring telling you it's about family and that the cars are guns don't have any meaning. That they are just a form of neutral consumerism and that it is good.
On the other hand, I do appreciate that the Fast series has always had a pretty diverse cast and never really made a big thing about it or pat itself on the back.
