I guess overexposure maybe is more what I’m getting at, along with just attaching yourself to anything. Like, my number one annoyance is Will Arnett. He’s a multimillionaire whose presence is unavoidable if you watch TV with ads. He endorses everything, along with the other Smartless guys doing AT&T.
It goes back to those Bill Hicks jokes about Jay Leno doing Doritos commercials. Shilling for Doritos is fine if you are struggling to pay bills but when you could buy an island it is disgusting. Selling out for nothing is a bad thing.
Brooklyn Nine Nine isn’t always amazing but when it’s at its best it’s a really funny show with an insanely likable cast. Probably one of the most progressive comedy shows I’ve ever seen too despite being about cops
I hate James Corden, but I do really love the British panel style late night talk show, and it is sad we are probably never going to get that concept in the US again. I just like seeing different types of artists randomly interacting with eachother. It's also why I look forward to those Hollywood Roundtables.
I don't get the booking big actors to do voiceover ads. It's like 75% of the people watching this ad don't even know it's Will Arnett trying to sell you a GMC Sierra truck or that it's Logan from Succession trying to get you to buy a quarter pounder with cheese. You couldn't just give a professional voice actor the gig?
I always get happy endings and raising hope confused but idk why. I've actually seen raising hope but not happy endings
Not to pick nits but...doesn't he actually own Mint Mobile? I can't explain why, but my gut says you'd be into it.
Per Wikipedia, he owned 20-25% of the company until last year, when T-Mobile took over. He agreed to stay on as spokesperson.
Yeah, it’s definitely not exactly the same thing as a standard sponsorship thing. But, I dunno if that actually matters in how I feel seeing him on my screen, lol. If anything, the Ryan Reynolds brand having an “entrepreneurial” side to it annoys me more?
yeah i know nothing about it. i only know about the good place, tho, cause one of my profs wouldnt shut up about it
Pedro Pascal could have made the perfect Khan in a Star Trek movie and it sucks they had to blow that on Cumberbatch.
I remember being really annoyed with what felt to me like extremely forced mystery boxing of / lying about who he was or wasn't playing and it soured me on the whole thing. I think I need to go back and watch it again and just see how it plays now.
On the one hand, I get it, it makes it sound like they think their audience is dumb, which they probably do, but you shouldn't actually say that part out loud. On the other hand, I think also about our current leak-based culture and how it seems to ruin a bit of the fun and mystery for the people creating this stuff. Imagine wanting it to be a big surprise that it's Khan and that surprise is ruined. I dunno, I'm trying to see it both ways.
Yeah, that's exactly why I wanted to go back now and just try to watch it. I remember being super annoyed in the movie theater and rolling my eyes when things were revealed in the movie, but I also get that it's very frustrating for the filmmakers to want certain things to not be leaked ahead of time. I do think theres a chance I was paying way too much attention to marketing & interviews & stuff around that time.
