Fun fact in one of the most recent NASA Astronaut training classes there was an offshore oil rig drilling engineer. So NASA is now indeed training oil drillers to become astronauts.
Been awhile since I’ve watched Deep Impact but feel like it took itself too seriously or at least felt that way compared to Armageddon. Which like, what wouldn’t compared to Armageddon lol. Love Armageddon, just a wonderful film full of great moments. Peter Stormare steals the show in his scenes. “American components. Russian components. All made in Taiwan!” Never forget Armageddon is a certified classic thanks to the folks at Criterion.
Deep Impact directed by Mimi Leder, whom was a major creative force on The Leftovers - she directed 10 episodes. Kind of a life pass there
Bumblebee/Rise of the Beasts are attempts to Marvel-ize the franchise, and saw off any of the toxic weird edges (along with any sense of scale or visual eye for action). Both movies are pretty lame imo and I know Bumblebee has it's defenders. I'd say the worst thing about Rise of Beasts is the G.I. Joe calling card at the end
Bumblebee is actually pretty fun, probably the best Transformers movie since the 80s animated one (for whatever that’s worth). Helps that it’s a very simple, broad story carried by Steinfeld and Cena’s performances. Beasts feels like an obligatory chore. Only saw it because I wanted something other than Flash to watch with my brother while he was in town, and was bored by most of it. The aspect you call the worst part was actually the best, because it hints at a future movie solving the “humans in live action Transformers” problem, lol, but I’m not hopeful enough that they could make that fun. Would need the excess of someone like Bay to sell it to me.
All I know about The Core is that a kid in my Astronomy class in college would ask the professor almost every day if he had seen it and try to apply all the lessons to the movie.
Just rewatched deep impact cause I’m off today and slightly hungover and it’s just not as fun as armageddon
Rise of the Beasts was fun and had some heart when Anthony Ramos was on screen, which was not often enough, because the rest is just gibberish exposition after nonsense lore.
