I don't think a lot of people say it out loud but they definitely believe it and abide by it.

I somewhat agree, but when that art (and/or entertainment) doesn’t suit the current moment, it’s perfectly fair for that to ruin someone’s viewing experience. Or, at least dampen it a bit!

I get what you mean but that’s exhausting to me. We’re in a cynical, hopeless moment, so I can only enjoy cynical, hopeless art? That’s just bleak.

Maybe we’re talking about different things, ‘cause I wouldn’t ever say a moment should ever be described as 100% “cynical” or “hopeful.” That’s a lame way to look at things, imo. I’m thinking about things much more specific than that.

If we have to use the Parks & Rec example… I adored that show when it aired and don’t feel as strongly about it aging poorly as others. But, at the same time, a lot of the politics that I was fine with a decade ago don’t play the same way for me now. And, that’s normal and fine, imo! It’s ok for me to bounce off bits a younger me at a different time didn’t bounce off of.

My whole thing is something like 30 Rock or Always Sunny or Seinfeld will always age better for me than The Office or Parks & Rec, simply because the former shows never got sentimental about their characters the way the latter did and that makes them funnier and more rewatchable imo

As much as I love it, there's a lot of "30 Rock" that has not aged well. Not as bad as "Kimmy Schmidt," but close.

Can we even say Kimmy Schmidt didn't age well? Wasn't it still on a couple years ago? I think at that point that's just being a bad show

I was just thinking in terms of sitcoms and, in this case, something Tina Fey related. Maybe a bit too unrelated, but that's where my mind went. Either way, there's a decent amount of "30 Rock" that is very yikes, despite it being one of my favorite shows.

The Simpsons and 30 Rock both have missteps that were unfortunately relatively common for liberal shows of their times, but they both age extremely well in their overall satire imo

I was going to say Frasier ages fairly well aside from the awful fashion and interior design but then I keep remembering more things that aged awful lmao

Still a fave show and some things aged very well but yeeah not others
