I'll read reception afterwards, typically on here though haha.

Reviews are supposed to be read after the film. It is weird how often people read them before seeing the film.

I mean, I guess I get that movies are fairly expensive so they want to know if they'll be getting their money's worth, but a review isn't really going to be able to fully answer that. Unless maybe it's a reviewer that you trust. I dunno

That is how you get into such bizarre things as a "spoiler-free review". There are few things less interesting than a conversation about a film that can't talk about what actually happens in the film.

I mean, I can see the point in a non spoiler review of a film. Is the action movie do good action? Is the comedy movie funny? Is the acting good or the third act fall apart? Like someone said above, movies aren't cheap and they help a bit in deciding which ones to go see.

I guess I do listen to hearsay. I go to the movies a few times a year. Horror is my genre so if one seems to be getting quite a lot of praise I'll go see it. Otherwise I'll wait, or still go just knowing it'll prob suck lol. I also see movies for actors which is dumb. I will watch Dunkirk for Harry cause im trash and stunt casting works on me lol

What sites/writers do you feel typically have the most in-depth reviews?

The only good good performance I've ever seen Bruce Willis give was in Pulp Fiction (haven't seen Moonrise Kingdom)

What about Die Hard? It's cheesy but it's good. Did you see Looper? Or Unbreakable?

Willis is serviceable. Moonrise Kingdom is good.

Haven't seen Unbreakable. Looper is great, but his performance doesn't have much to do with it. Die Hard is pretty lame tbh

I think Willis is good when he's dealing with an auteur. But when he is working w/bullshit he totally phones it in and does for the check. I know this for sure cause my brother worked for a production company that would work with Willis a lot and he said he'd fly in, come on set for like two hours, and get paid 2 mil just for those couple of hours. Seems like a bit of a diva.

Really? I thought Looper was one of his most recent movies where he actually gave a solid performance and looked like he wanted to be there lol

I guess I was being sort of hyperbolic when I said the only "good" performance. He's okay in stuff like Looper and The Sixth Sense, but I'm mostly speaking with his reputation as an A-lister in mind. Besides Pulp Fiction, I've never seen him do a part that I felt couldnt have gone to loads of other actors and been better for it.

I should have said "I don't think that Bruce Willis should have the success he's had" but I don't know how unpopular of an opinion that is

Brucey was great in Looper (esp the scene where he shoots that little girl and breaks down), Hostage and Lucky Number Sleven. I'm sure I'm blanking on a ton of others.

Pulp Fiction, the Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Moonrise Kingdom, Moonlighting, Looper, and 12 Monkeys are all solid to very good performances. Moonlighting probably features his most range/charm/depth, his film work isn't quite as dynamic.
