The difference in quality between Twilight and most superhero movies is negligible and a lot of the vitriol at the time came from people the movies weren’t made for: boring straight guys
Fincher’s best are elite but he’s got like, 3 I’d say are that good and the rest vary on notably lower tiers
Social Network and Zodiac are all timers. None of his movies I’ve seen are bad (haven’t seen Alien 3 so...), but they’re definitely overrated.
Zodiac is a masterpiece. Seven is great. Panic Room is a lot of fun. Everything else is bad and/or forgettably mediocre.
I think most of his stuff is great and he's made a few of my all time favourites so I'm usually a big fan.
You could argue that Marvel movies are equally as thematically shallow as Twilight or whatever, but the horrific production value of that first Twilight movie still sticks with me over a decade later and they really aren’t comparable at all in that regard. It’s unintentionally B-movie level. Maybe they improved in the subsequent movies idk
Marvel’s quality control is usually decent at managing a high floor/low ceiling but for superhero movies as a whole, any Twilight movie is as good or better than like 3-4 X-Men movies, the Marc Webb Spider-Man movies, Zack Snyder’s DC movies, Joker, Far From Home, maybe the pre-Ragnorok Thors I don’t remember that well right now, and plenty of people like most of those movies a lot.
Panic Room, Speak, Into the Wild, and Adventureland left strong impressions before/as I saw Twilight, she’s always ruled.
I watched the Twilight movies for the first time last year and they're hilarious. Soundtrack definitely was sick though.
Some of the X-Men movies are actually great. Some shit ones, of course, but their best are better than any Marvel movie.
