It's fine. There are a lot of things I like about it, and I can see it's value, not sure if it deserves its own festival, but sure.
The Big Lebowski is one of the all time best comedies, it's just been appropriated by obnoxious people who quote it too much and are obsessed with the dude.
I wasn't really aware of people quoting it too much when I first saw it, but I already didn't like Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore, so I'm sure that didn't help it either. I've watched it a couple more times since then and it just annoys me and I don't find nearly anything about it funny.
Just thinking about the Big Lebowski makes me start laughing. The perfection of their formula, and their best film as well.
There are of course plenty of great ones to choose from, but my favorite of theirs is probably Burn After Reading. That said, I have somehow never seen The Man Who Wasn't There or Intolerable Cruelty. I didn't care much for Hail Caesar :/
They're so good at what they do that there are multiple valid options for their best film. I slide between Lebowski and Llewyn Davis
oh i actually dont mind when theaters have an obnoxious amount of trailers before a movie. the more the merrier
When a friend and I saw John Wick 2, during maybe the 6th or 7th trailer, he leaned over and asked "Is John Wick 2 just a series of movie trailers for two hours?" I checked a few times when I was seeing movies at the local AMC and on average, the movie started 20-25 minutes after the scheduled start time. Sometimes 30 minutes. It's near unbearable, particularly in addition to car commercials, insurance commercials, and dumb animations advising what we have to do in case of an emergency and telling us not to use our phones. Alamo Drafthouse is a gift for their pre-show vintage ads/shorts and no ads policy alone.
Llewyn, Fargo, No Country, and Big Lebowski are all great choices for their best work. I haven't seen their entire filmography though. Missing Ladykillers, A Serious Man, The Man Who Wasn't There, Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, and Intolerable Cruelty.
It's 20 minutes for most amc. What's great about knowing that is you know you have time if you're running late or whatever.
